Stoweflake Mountain Resort & Spa

The rooms were dated but clean. The staff was friendly.

My husband and I were aware that the Stowflake had fallen on hard times in recent years and renovations were underway. We stayed at the Stowflake many times before COVID but were looking forward to throw our support behind the resort. We were extremely disappointed with the quality of accommodations in the Sports Lodge which reminded me of a 1980's motel with dated furnishings and thin walls. It seems that the main building was primarily occupied by tour bus guests who received breakfasts in event rooms. The rest of the guests like us were left with a sad breakfast "buffet" that didn't even meet Holiday Inn standards - a few bagels, prewrapped pastries, bananas, apples. This would have been easier to take had we not been charged with a previously unannounced $20 per night resort amenities fee for use of the outdoor pool (out of season), hot tub and fitness facility. I understand that the Stowflake is trying to renovate and must prioritize tour groups. However, we were charged room rates comparable to rates at fully functional resorts. Very disappointing.

When you are paying top dollar to stay at a resort during peak season you have certain expectations. Upon our arrival in Stowe, it was unseasonably warm (80’s). The A/C was broken in the room that we were given at this so-called ‘Resort’. The employee first asked if we would be ok opening up the windows and using a fan and then upon my insistence, switched us to a different room. All was good with the working A/C, however, the TV did not work nor did we have hot water for our showers after going for a swim! You have lots of options in Stowe, choose wisely!!

The location was good. Central to everything Stowe. Continental breakfast was ok.

The rooms are showing they’re wear. The hotel experienced a fire alarm at 6:15am. We evacuated but received no information from the staff for quite sometime. It seemed like the staff had no protocol on what to do. Some guests stayed in their rooms with the siren going off but were never directed to leave the building. The fire department showed up about 25 minutes later. It was false but a crazy way to get woken up. No real apologies from staff and no accommodation provided.

We got stuck with a room in the old motel addition which was very outdated and noisy. The beds were so sunken in that my back hurt all night. We were awoken at 6am by fire alarms and had to stand outside in the cold. No one told us what was going on. We had to ask the fire department (who came 30 minutes later). We go to bed finally and in the morning there is NO water. We had to shower in other rooms. We should have received a partial refund for a horrible night, but none was offered. All we got were apologies.

Excellent location, great room (townhome).

From the minute we arrived, the staff made it their priority to be sure we enjoyed our stay and we certainly did. Rooms were spotless and delightfully cool since we had unseasonably hot days. The in room fireplace was tempting to try out but with 85+ degree weather, we passed. Property was well manicured and very tidy. Walking path made a great start to our day. Would definitely stay here when I return to Stowe!

I had booked 3 rooms and was most excited about our stay at this property. They gave us the rooms in this building called Sports Wing, which is cut off from the main building and is more like staff quarters. The rooms were dark, dinghy, cold and smelling. Carpets were filthy. They had no housekeeping-PERIOD. At the time of booking, no where did it give any info about this separate building. DO NOT BOOK OR STAY IN THE SPORTS WING - even for free. Extremely disappointed, as I had guests from overseas. In fact, one of them even commented “ didn’t know there were such bad hotels in the USA.” We paid close to $275/night. The ultimate shame was that the breakfast was served in the lobby with barely seating for 20 people, when the capacity of the hotel must be over 100 guests. Breakfast too was pathetic. Do a lil research before getting stuck in this cess pool.
