Hotel El Convento

Hotel El Convento has a serene and special vibe. The spiritual history, along with the beautiful architecture makes this a wonderful, relaxing place to stay. The rooftop pool offers peaceful, sunset views of the bay. The evening wine/cheese reception was delightful. Also, the new restaurant menu is delicious! The hotel's location is in the center of the historic San Juan downtown, right up from the main town gate from the harbor and beside the cathedral. Restaurants, shops, vistas, and nightlife are all just steps away. The hotel is newly renovated (2024) with modern conveniences while tastefully honoring the building's history. The daily free coffee on the roof top until noon and the wine and cheese reception from 5-6pm were nice touches. The friendly staff provided top notch service including recommending a tour guide, restaurants, and other places to visit. We would stay here again!

I have no suggestions for improvements related to the hotel. Traffic into and out of the Old San Juan can be heavy. If you are looking for a beach vacation (we were not), consider staying closer to one of the beaches.

100% excellent location, service, and experience!

This was my second stay at El Convento, and it was just as wonderful as I remembered. The hotel is housed in a beautiful historic building with a charming interior courtyard, and the staff were warm and welcoming throughout our stay. The location in the heart of the old town was perfect for exploring. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and very relaxing.

The roof top pool is very small but at least there is a pool!

I was given an interior room and I had asked for a room with a view to the city.

We had the best Mofongo and an outstanding waitress Julianna who made sure we had we could have our food gluten and dairy free. Additionally, she seems like the happiest person we’ve met. She made our day.

Waiting for check in till 5 PM as hotel ran short of bedlinen and could not prepare the rooms!!! Lost half a vacation day as we spent it in the hotel lobby along with several other guests waiting. Some staff exceptionally friendly but not experienced enough to help resolving issues professionally. Two male waiters at main restaurant arrogant, abrupt and rude.

My wife and I spent five wonderful nights at El Convento. Great coffee every morning served by the third floor terrace. Wine and cheese every evening. And a wonderful bonus of bottled water in your room and on the terrace. The staff were friendly and gracious. Beautiful room. The location was perfect.Our day trip trip to Isla Verde Beach, perfect. Old San Juan was amazing. Loved it. Suggest strongly a walking tour. So much history. Tour the fort closest to the hotel. There is no need to do the fort further away. Unless you truly enjoy touring distilleries, you can skip Baccardi. I would recommend Kaffee House for breakfast/ brunch. Carli's was an outstanding dinner.$$$ And Baris near the hotel was great. La Factoria was a great dive cocktail bar. Best Old Fashioned ever. Loved El Convento and Old San Juan... You will also.

The staff at the hotel is great. In particular we would like to recognize Juliana’s service and care of us. Every time we visited the Nispero restaurant she greeted us with a smile and familial friendliness. Her service is something that needs to be highlighted as a great way to start the day. She had great suggestions for my restricted diet. Always a pleasure dealing with her. Thank you, Juliana & see you next time.
