location good, breakfast good - Anniversary Card in room was a lovely touch

Scaffolding outside, damp/musty smell in the room (411) on arrival

Shrouded in scaffolding, it took us a while to find the hotel despite it being 11 storeys high! Had to wait some time at reception to not a particularly warm welcome. No instructions as to bar or breakfast area. Dingy reception. Lifts took us to the 6th floor. Room was adequate but offered no warmth or pleasantries. Just dull. I had stayed the week before at Malmaison in Harrogate for half the price. The room wasn't any nicer there but at least I had more money in my pocket. And a friendly reception. Breakfast at the Crowne was busy and chaotic. Tables uncleared. No glasses, orange juice, milk & eggs all had to be waited for or pointed out were empty. I would say a definite shortage of staff. I wouldn't return. I think there are nicer & cheaper places in Harrogate.

Decor in public rooms too dark for my taste. I didn’t like the seating in the bar area. The food offerings was limited and quite expensive
