Holiday Inn Champaign by IHG

We selected this Holiday Inn on a rainy and cool weekday night based on its location next to some nicer restaurants. The parking immediately next to the hotel is limited but was available on this quiet night. The room and hotel were fine, although if you looked closely, it could use a deep cleaning (e.g., the top edge of the baseboard in the bathroom was filthy). The room was laid out differently than most hotel rooms, with the bathroom immediately opposite the bed. If anyone got up to use it during the night, chances are their spouse would wake up. Room doors along the hallway could slam noisily if not carefully closed. Since the hotel was not busy I cannot attest to the level of noise from adjoining rooms. We picked the room rate that included breakfast, which was tasty and is served fresh off a menu, not from a buffet. We appreciated the 6 am weekday breakfast start time.

The holiday Inn in Champaign has great service. Julie was very friendly and helpful! It’s close to downtown and right next to the university campus.

Great stay, rooms were good size with ample space (beds, lounge area, microwave, fridge, couch). Breakfast was quick and real food, eggs were real and not the liquid foamy eggs. All personnel were attentive and Julie was great managing the bar top at dinner time.

I'm surprised this hotel is rated as high as it is, to be honest. I travel a lot for work and pleasure, and this hotel is not one I would want to stay at again. Below are my reasons. The first was the room location. I was on the fifth floor, which was in a separate area, above the convention center. I had to walk through the lobby, down a hall to use one slow elevator. Once I got to the fifth floor, I had to go down around a corner and down a long hallway to my room. It was strange for a hotel of this size. The second was the room formation. It was a mini suite, but the tv was in the living area and almost impossible to see from the right side of the bed. It was weird. The third is the walls are very thin. It sounded like the people across the hall were in my room with me. Ridiculous. The fourth and worst was the parking situation. There was NO close parking available. Every place you tried to park or said, "Private parking" or "No hotel parking. I had to park a block away. There were no alternate entries so you had to walk around to the front door. There were very few lights. As a single woman traveler, this was disconcerting. I will not be staying here again, and I would advise you to find a different place to stay.

The remote control for the television was covered in sticky stuff. As soon as I touched it, I was sticky myself causing me to have to wash the remote and my hands multiple times. The desk chair was broken so that when my husband tried to sit in the chair it rocked all the way back and thankfully he was near a wall so he didn’t fall backward. The refrigerator was so small that it could only fit medication vials, not a can or bottle would fit in it. The phone was unplugged. The one lamp flickered on and off incessantly. The wall thermostat didn’t work, but the one on the heating unit did. The security bar for securing the door was so loose as to be useless.

Our room seemed to be in an older part of the hotel. The room was spacious but somewhat worn and could use updating. Parking is quite limited.
