I stayed here for five nights, by myself. On the plus side: You probably won't find a better value hotel in central San Francisco, with nearby public transport connections to most other parts of the city including BART to/from the airport. The rooms have clearly been updated recently; everything looked fresh and contemporary. The bed was very comfortable, although the bedding is minimal for chilly SF and I had to ask for an extra blanket. On the minus side, things they had no control over: There isn't much they can do about their location in the Tenderloin district. There is a permanent encampment of lost souls both next to the hotel and across the street from it, so every time you enter or leave the hotel you are confronted with a fairly stark level of human misery. Also the hotel is next to a restaurant and nightclub, with pounding music and screaming patrons until the early hours of the morning. There is also sometimes loud music played all night by the people camped outside of the hotel. Possibly a solution to the noise problem is to request a room at the top floor of the hotel. I was on the second floor and my room might as well have been in the middle of that nightclub, so I got no sleep at all despite the comfortable bed. Things they do have some control over: Breakfast is minimal, more a snack to launch you out the door to find your real breakfast (I recommend Lori's Diner on Sutter Street). Front desk staff seemed to regard guests as inconvenient interruptions to whatever conversations they were having or media they were streaming through ever-present earbuds. The franchise is clearly being run as a family business, but perhaps not all members of the family are equally on board with what being in the hospitality industry means. Maybe the location makes them miserable too, I don't know. In summary I can say that the price was right and the room was comfortable, but I probably would not recommend it as a place to stay. There are unfortunately too many factors weighing against the place.

La habitación tenia todo lo necesario para una estadía agradable, la cama era muy cómoda, la señal de internet bastante buena y todo en general cumplió con nu8estra expectativa. Aunque no era variado el desayuno, es un plus tener algo para comer en las mañanas.

Podría mejorar el aseo en las zonas comunes, el tapete se veía bastante sucio. Y aunque en San Francisco es difícil encontrar hotel con parqueadero, seria bueno que tuvieran algún convenio con un parqueadero porque es bastante costoso. Para la fecha que viajamos tuvimos que pagar 40 dólares por noche.

Room was clean, but very small just to fit the bed. Bathroom was nice.

No parking available (leaving a car on the street is unsafe). The surrounding neighborhood does not feel safe. Union Square itself, however, is a nice place.
