Muthu Belstead Brook Hotel

Unfortunately the reality didn't live up to the photos advertised on the website. While the hotel may once have been impressive, it now feels tired and in need of significant investment. Throughout our stay we noticed cobwebs, dust and general signs of neglect. The breakfast area was particularly disappointing, with chipped tables that looked well past their best, while the mugs provided in the room were also chipped. In the bathroom, the grouting was in poor condition and clearly overdue for replacement. First impressions weren't helped by traffic cones positioned around the stairs near reception, which only added to the feeling that maintenance issues are being managed rather than properly addressed. Another frustration was the additional charge for a gown to use the leisure facilities. This wasn't made particularly clear beforehand and felt like an unnecessary hidden extra on top of the room rate. On the positive side, the staff were friendly, welcoming and did their best throughout our stay. They were undoubtedly the strongest aspect of the hotel experience. Overall, the hotel has potential and benefits from pleasant surroundings, but the photographs currently paint a much rosier picture than guests will find on arrival. With some refurbishment, attention to detail and greater transparency around additional charges, it could be a much more enjoyable place to stay.

Fair price, comfortable bed and friendly reception staff

Very dated decor, photos are not representative of the experience we had in the garden suite. Basic cleanliness but no attention to detail in cleaning (dust and tatty furniture). With a revamp and some attention to detail it would be a really nice stay.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The room was dated but very clean and comfortable. Gym area had everything you could need. The hotel as a whole is very much in need of a makeover but the main areas are nicely decorated.

The lift was very loud and woke me often, it was like it vibrated the room and I was 4 rooms away so I didn't get the best sleep so ask for a room away from the lift!

Slight rotten eggs smell from sink in bathroom. This was reported and dealt with, the smell did not reappear

wasn't very clean, noisy, no running cold water in the room, pillows smelt musty and I had to move from the room I booked into a lower tariff room as the room request that had been confirmed wasn't available for me and I wasn't offered a refund for the difference.
