Château Hotel Grand Barrail

The hotel and grounds are well maintained. Lovely! The front desk service was superb. However, the service at the buffet was very inconsistent. Be sure to ask about egg options. Don’t always offer them to you. Doesn’t appear there is a system for clearing tables, managing the buffet and sharing options with customers. Stay away from the buffer during last 45 minutes. Service even more disjointed.

Was one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. Saint Emilion is only a short drive away and the staff was able to assist us in getting us there an back. The attention to detail is like no other when it comes to everything at the chateau. From the grounds to the incredible dinner we had. Thank you so much to all the staff that made our first time in France so memorable

This is a truly beautiful property. Our room was spacious and well laid out and the common areas were all just lovely. The main dining room, in particular, was stunning with its stained glass windows and domed ceiling at one end. We had dinner here on our first night and really enjoyed the tasting menu, which turned into more courses than was on the menu. Staff were extremely attentive and my daughter appreciated their support as she practised her French -- something she rarely gets to do in her work in London. The property is part of a chateau so you have the vineyards all around you, and there's a beautiful terrace where you can sit for a drink to admire the view. Also, it's a short drive to other chateaux in St. Emilion and an easy drive to other places such as Sauternes and Margaux. Parking is free. We also used taxis and Ubers for dinners out so we didn't have to worry about driving on dark country roads. Will definitely stay here again on my next visit to Bordeaux.

Great location close to Saint-Emilion, views of the property or vineyards. Beautiful property with much more modern furnishings making it feel light welcoming.

The hotel and hotel itself are great and worth of stay. The very poor review being left is for the restaurant. We were told by the front desk that reservations for restaurant are recommended as it get booked. Looking back, I wish I ignored them and just went into town. The hotel restaurant experience and food were just so poor and disappointing. The food is just fuss and just not worth the time and money. Service overall would have been fine, but the entrée we ordered were inedible. One dish was the pigeon dish which was hard and tasted off. The other entrée dish was the fish which came out cold. We sent both dishes back. The pigeon dish I had to replace with something more edible. We asked the fish dish to be warmed up but of course came back cold. The worst part of it, we are checking out, trying to leave as quickly as possible since the evening was a waste, one of the inexperienced staff members gave us a bill and tried to charge us for all the dishes including the one we had to send back and replace. He couldn’t understand why they shouldn’t replace charge us double. I just wanted to leave but my wife insisted that they fix the bill. The other experienced person had to intervene after seeing us and fixed it, but it was just poor hospitality. Not sure why but we went back for breakfast the next day since it was already paid for, and we could just stick to the buffet. Even though we did that, after the breakfast, we felt ill and got food poisoning.

Beautiful facility and nice location to Saint Emilion. Staff was very knowledgeable and helpful with winery recommendations and setting up tastings. Beautiful area to relax in and enjoy the wine tasting region.

Beautiful hotel located in great proximity to Saint Emilion. The grounds, situated in the middle of vineyards are very well maintained and the quiet peaceful surroundings truly enhanced our wonderful stay.
