Hotel Hornung

Very friendly and very clean and very nice breakfast. Fixtures and fittings no longer in first flush of youth though perfectly adequate. Very handy for where I was going and for main station where bus arrives from airport, but otherwise not a great location. Good value. Would use again if going to Darmstadt.

Despite an odd beginning to my visit when communication was by a phone on the front door and a number given to open a box to get a key for my room, the hotel was warm and clean and provided a good basic room for my stay. I first met the staff at breakfast the day after booking in. The receptionist and another member of staff (the manager I think) who spoke good English which is relief as I only know about 4 words of Geraman. The buffet breakfast was good with a variety of food and the offer to cook eggs and warm milk. There was no kettle in the room but this may be a peculiarly British thing so I wasn't sure if this is usual for Germany but as there were no staff around on Saturday I wasn't able to get adrink from the bar either. I guess I could have called using the phine at the entrance . The hotel is described as a business hotel and is close to the station and many businesses including the one where my son works. I suspect there would be more staff and guests during the week visiting the local businesses. If you are happy with a fairly anonymous hotel which was fine for me as I don't speak Geraman and it meant my son could come in and out without any explanation. If however you prefer a more welcoming, cosy hotel this isn't the best choice. For warm clean room with a comfortable bed and good breakfast this is pleasant place to stay.

Overall this hotel is not bad. It's very close to the rail station and where I needed to be, so that was a major plus. The breakfast had a lot of food available as well. Just be warned that Darmstadt is not a vacation place, if that is your goal. That, and I had some WiFi issues (as in, it did not work on the 4th floor most of the time).

A low cost, good location alternative for chains. Nothing to complain though. A little noisy neighborhood and lack of air conditioning might cause problems when the weather is hot.

Room was clean and nice enough, although a bit bare (one pillow, no wifi, empty fridge - so if these things are important to you bear this in mind) Staff were friendly. Breakfast was ok but not very inspiring. Very handy location near the station and walkable from the centre of town. Recommended as a convenient hotel with decent enough room but definitely not luxurious feeling in any way.
