The Inn at the Union Club of British Columbia

The location and staff were great.

Our room was not equipped for two people. Only one bedside table, only one small shelf in the bathroom for toiletries. The carpet was dirty. The elevator was out of commission.

Beautiful historic property in a great location

Location is great. And it’s a historic building.

After we had booked an uncancellable reservation, they informed us that there was a dress code that banned most casual clothing in all common areas. When we arrived, we found that the elevators had been out of service all summer. Apparently a close reading of the hotels website or perhaps the booking listing would have let us learn that. Thus we needed to carry our bags up about six flights from the street level to our room. A night security guard provided partial assistance; similarly a porter when we checked out. The idea of apologizing and offering compensation (breakfast) occurred to the reception staff only the second time I expressed my frustration. After all that they told us we couldn’t stay parked where we’d been told to the night before. In addition, while the public areas of the club are attractive in a “ historic old boys club “ way, the halls of the room areas are tired and depressing. The rooms are fine, but we were lucky that the heat wave had broken b/c there was no a/c. Not coming back

The location is excellent

The room was small with no air conditioning. The elevator didn't work.

The location was very convenient and close to our activities.

The room was very hot, there was no air conditioning. The bed was softer than we would have liked. The building maintenance man knocked and entered when I was undressing. There wasn't much time given between the knock and when he entered the room. The finishings were worn and there was damage to the toilet lid and walls. The room door was damaged at the bottom as well. This is not a hotel we would choose again, but did do the job.

Union club is not just the name, they are actually a club. In the property details they said they have on site parking but when we got there they said on site parking is for club members only.. so we had to park 2 blocks away. Then they said to use the club amenities you need to follow club’s dress code, we travel with a carry on, how do you expect me to bring 3 shoes to accommodate your dress code. And no elevator… they send us an emails 2 days before or stay that there is no elevator. On top of all these no AC.

The ambiance of the club, and the atmosphere in the rooms was really fun.

Club members seemed to treat us in a resentful manner as though we were interlopers in their world. We were excited try the dining room, but chose not to due to the lack of welcoming atmosphere.
