Wingate by Wyndham Memphis East

My wife and I stayed here recently and we enjoyed our stay. Checking in was easy, staff friendly, room clean and quiet, breakfast typical but satisfying. The building looked a little run down but solidly built nonetheless. The exercise room (it looked like two treadmills and a stair master) was out of order along with a vending machine or two. Outside we could see the ruins of a few fountains and other ornamental features. It must have been something in its day. The neighborhood looked a little rough but it offered easy access to the interstate and a 20 minute drive to downtown Memphis. There was also a park nearby (Shelby Farms Park) with paved and unpaved trails, a lake, bike and boat rentals in a very safe environment. Our stay in Memphis coincided with the deployment of National Guard troops to help deter crime. Along with this, police presence was beefed up around the city which was obvious in the Wingate's neighborhood. We also had "The Protection Agency" patrolling our parking lot. Whether in spite of or because of all the added security measures, we enjoyed our stay at Wingate by Wyndham and we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again when in Memphis.

Why not have extra garbage bags in the rooms?

I don't feel completely at ease here. There are some vending machines and the fitness center are out of order during our stay. So, you might want to be prepared with your own groceries in your room. The room is quiet, the bed is very comfortable. Since my husband made the reservation, I'm not sure how much he paid. He calls this a nice budget hotel. It is quiet outside of our room, which is nice. The outside and inside (lobby and room) need some sprucing up. It's a comfortable hotel and room, but really needs some love to feel more welcoming. It is a dog friendly hotel, but it is location policy for all dogs to come in through the back entrance, not the front lobby.

Room was very clean. The ceiling was pealing. The frond desk told us breakfast was till 10. When arriving at 9:15 the eggs were cold, the sausage wasn’t cooked through and we were told we should have arrived earlier.

My husband paid for this room, so I know it wasn't a very expensive stay. The outside and inside (lobby and room) need some sprucing up. It's a comfortable hotel and room, but really needs some love to feel more welcoming. The front desk clerk, when we checked in around 5:30pm Friday, saw me with my dog about to get on the elevator. She said she's scared of dogs. No biggie. I let her get off before I got on. I get to our room and my husband says "dogs aren't allowed to go through the lobby, but it might only be this staff person's policy." I don't feel completely at ease here and my dog is sensing that. I will say that there are some vending machines and the fitness center are out of order.

Very clean and well kept hotel. Friendly and welcoming staff. Breakfast was served hot and fresh.

Quiet and spacious

The air wasn’t on when we got there and the room smelled pretty bad. Circulating air helped. Some of the furniture was ripped, scratched, and dusty. The smoke alarm was covered in plastic. The room was clean though. The bed was comfortable. There was not always hot water. We felt safe there. Staff was kind. We would consider staying again, but it wouldn’t be our first choice.
