As frequently returning guests at this fabulous hotel, each time our stay gets better & better. From the moment you step into the vast lobby & see those amazing iconic 3 chandeliers, our smiles returned from a tiring 24 hrs plus of travelling from the UK,to being checked in by Alicia ( same as last year). We were given a fabulous room (2128) from which we were fortunate to see a troop of 30 plus cotamundi one night & many a roaming agouti about. We were fortunate to see a howler monkey too. Our room was perfectly appointed, spotlessly clean ( thank you Amanda for our towel creations), beds & pillows were so comfortable. The food as always is extremely good & the hardest thing you have to do is choose what you want from the vast array of cuisines each morning, lunchtime & evening. There are 5 themed restaurants if you want a more formal experience, however the Don Julien was perfectly for us. ( Thank you Edward, our charming waitress, who has been there many years) After our evening meal we finished our night with drinks in the lobby bar listening to the accomplished pianist Fellipe. We noticed that for the more youthful guests, there was more active nightly entertainment advertised. The managerial staff were always walking around & interacting with the guests each day. This gives this hotel a more personal experience for the guests. We are beach lovers, here, there has never been an issue of getting a sun bed, there are lots, just choose where you want to relax. Under the palm trees is idyllic. The location of this hotel is perfect. A leisurely stroll ( about 45 mins for us) through a tree lined avenue of amazing mini mansion homes, will take you to Playa del Carmen,a shoppers delight, we sit & people watch whilst having drinks. It's all safe too. We felt safer here than back home. If you have the time try & go to the Cirque du Soleil show, Joya, the food & show are amazing. There are refurbishing plans from May to September this year so the hotel will be closed. A perfect holiday,14 nights passed so quickly

"Now double standards,Americans only"

10.0

Hotel is in the right palace after 33 times why would I return answer the staff . But this time via TUI I have book for November expecting the same hotel and no indication from TUI when I booked is that the hotel is going to be closed for 3 months June July August for refurbishment that will be nice . BUT only finding out on RIU site that they are introducing an elite section to the hotel. This I do not like as when I book in to a hotel I would like to be treated the same as all the guests now there will be double standards. If I had known I would not have book this hotel, the situation will be you can’t go here you can’t go there you can only eat here. When I made contact with TUI and ask if I may upgrade the answer I got was NO ,it seems the elite section is only for Americans. Plus in this hotel there is not enough pool space to split the pools for double standards. This is going to be uncomfortable and it was to be special for my wife’s 70th birthday. TUI says you booked can’t do anything about it. The minimum I would have liked the same room we had but that goes to an elite guest. Call TUI before booking hotel.

"Will not return or recommend facility."

Landscaping

Outdated complex and furnishing. Hallways made you feel like you were in a prison scene of a movie. Lack of variety of food. No traditional mexican dishes at breakfast or dinner, very limited options.

"A little updating in music taste is needed but overall great"

6.0

Alright, this is a great little resort. The employees are fabulous and super nice and friendly. The atmosphere is great. They have a lounge that is open 24 of course after the buffet and restaurants are closed but the air freshener was just not it! Grant it they want you to come in a grab and go but the smell of the air fresher at the front door yuck! The music....guys there is more than Madana and techno the music choices have to be updated...if you are looking for older music there is Bon Jovi, Aero Smith, Journey's Balvin, Beyonce, Bad Bunny, Peso Pulma, Usher, Post Malone, I totally understand they are reaching for their customers but the music taste has got to change I don't want to listen to "Touched like a Virgin" "I'm a barbie girl" or Shania Twain all the days I am there, they have other country music singers I know they will be transformed into an adults only resort but they music choice and air freshers have got to be updated. Other than that, no further complaints rooms are great food is great atmosphere is great

"We enjoyed our stay!"

8.0

It was our first time at a Riu resort and we found many things to like about our stay at the Riu Palace Mexico. We loved that we could go and check out the other Riu resorts close by - Yucatan, Tequila, Playacar, Riviera Maya - we thoroughly enjoyed walking through their grounds, grabbing a coffee, visiting their pool areas and getting a feel for what each resort offered. We also loved how walkable our resort was and the grounds are beautiful. The beach area is beautiful too (they try their best with the seaweed situation) and there are a lot of chairs on the beach. We never found it a challenge to find a pool chair - even if we didn't get up too early - and we LOVED the sun covers over so many of the chairs! Pool area was fun, but not too loud (for too long anyway) and it was always enjoyable being there. This resort will soon be undergoing renovations - that being said - the rooms needed a bit of work, but a HUGE SHOUTOUT to Elizabeth - she did an amazing job keeping our room clean. It was honestly cleaner than other (higher end) resorts we have stayed at - floor was washed every day! They also always refilled the soda and water we drank out of the fridge in a timely manner. The food at this resort was average good. Usually by the end of the week - I get really tired of the buffet but I didn't find that here. There was enough variety that each day you could have something completely different. The food at the buffet was often quite good so I would say that I enjoyed it most of the time. Just be selective about what looks like it's been sitting too long and what is just put out! The a la carte restaurants - were not busy, with the exception of the steakhouse (so arrive at 6:30 or plan to wait). We enjoyed the Italian and Krystal the best, but also went to the buffet twice for dinner which was good. BEST treats - the macarons, chocolate cake and carrot cake at the coffee shop! SO GOOD! Staff were all very friendly! We would definitely consider a Riu Palace again - loved this location for walkability.
