Staff were very friendly and welcoming and the room was very comfortable. We only stayed for one night but the location was very convenient, just a short walk into the centre of York and there are lots of lovely pubs in the area.

The room didn't have a toilet brush and the shower was very small, other than that it was very nice.

We stayed here for 3 nights in May, during the heatwave. It is super close to the city centre and surprisingly quiet considering the location! We enjoyed the beautiful gardens and could hear birds singing and ringing of the bells through the windows which was pretty idyllic! We were also given a voucher for comp drinks at the bar as it was my partners birthday and this was a lovely touch. We were also able to leave our luggage at reception before and after check in/out which made our travel arrangements significantly easier. The bathroom had lovely toiletries provided by the White Company which we enjoyed very much.

Unfortunately I would not say that the overall quality could be given 4 stars. The room was of a good size and the bathroom was large and equipped with a very powerful shower and a bath too! However the decor was very tired, chipped paint and issues in the bathroom with sealant etc, as well as the bedroom being very very dusty. As other reviewers have mentioned, having your room serviced is something you have to ask for via a qr code. We did this, however, as other posters have also experienced, our room was not serviced and when we asked reception about this at 3pm we were told it was too late to enquire as that team had gone home for the day. Reception did offer us new towels if we needed them but it was the cleanliness that was the issue. The wardrobe had hangers in it for robes and a note to say if we wanted to keep a robe we could purchase at reception, but there were no robes in the room! We went to the bar one afternoon for something to eat, and found that this was also entirely run by qr codes. We scanned and ordered food and were given a 20 min wait time. 45 mins later we asked for an update at the bar to be informed that there had been a problem with the system and they had not received our order but would get it out asap. As mentioned, in the week we stayed it was very hot. The room did not have aircon but a fan had been provided and the windows were left open, which provided some cool air. 2x 500ml bottles of water were provided for our 3 night stay which felt inadequate in the heatwave. We ended up buying some bottled water from a supermarket instead.
