The Grand America Hotel

We 50 something active adults visited along with our 24 year old son. Opulent is the word this hotel evokes - classic, grand scale and old world - rooms are generous (we had a 2Q SUITE) and had lots of room - there’s even unused “dead” space in the room. Ground and gardens are fabulous. Lobby and afternoon tea evoke another era. The Laurel bar was beautiful, drinks were great and bartenders were very friendly. We walked to downtown a couple of times and visited many local pubs and restaurants. Parking in the underground garage was great. Easy in and out for day trips. Would stay at this gorgeous property again.

Sadly the outdoor pool was not open and our patio had no furniture during beautiful 70 degree days in April. Tried to go to the indoor pool but it was absolutely overrun by small children. Had been hoping to enjoy the hot tub but I counted 9 kids - approx ages 4-7 - in the hot tub alone (no adult) in with them. They had pulled all of the plastic cups from the nearby water dispenser and had them in the hot tub pouring water on each other and leaving cups everywhere. We waited a bit but they showed no signs of leaving so we left. Disappointing but we weren’t going to sit in that soup! Check in was efficient and perfunctory. Given that the hotel is such a grand, beautiful and special property - I’d encourage you to make your guests feel more special at checking. Finally, I thought rooms came with a fridge when I booked. They only had a small mini bar stocked with soda and water and candy. When I called to ask about a fridge I was told they could supply one for an additional $50. Or, they suggested I remove all of the mini bar items from the fridge as they were not weighted I would not get charged. Kind of annoying to have to do that.

I was attending a conference at the Salt Palace, but all of the adjacent hotels were booked solid. I looked a bit farther out, and I am glad that I did. The Grand America Hotel is simply amazing. Just from the lobby, you know this place is special. There may be a bit of a hike to get to your room, but the distance is worth it. Rooms are beyond spacious - they are HUGE. Interiors are elegant with classical furniture. Every area was spotlessly clean. Even small features like the gold door hinges are impressive (really!). I had only one problem. I was traveling solo and was twice denied a table (despite tables being available) in the restaurant with the host trying me to shuttle me over to an uncomfortable bar seat instead. The restaurant policy seems to be that tables are for two, not one. OK. So I used room service and that was very nicely done - no complaints with that at all.

It was stunning. The grounds. The staff. All of the amenities. The food. The service. All of it.

I stayed in a Premium View King for 1 night. Probably the most beautiful room I’ve ever stayed in, and the hotel itself is gorgeous. Wonderful service, thoughtful amenities. I’d stay here again in a heartbeat. What an incredible property!

It is an absolutely stunning hotel !!

I had a driver referred by the hotel who overcharged me as I was leaving to the airport ! It was frustrating but everything else was excellant !! All the staff and the accommodations !!
