Courtyard by Marriott Topeka

Stayed one night while traveling. Property very clean, very quiet. Adequate parking. Front desk staff very helpful and courteous. The housekeeping staff greeted us in hallway multiple times. Only issues, no remote was in our room so we had to go find one at the front desk, not a big deal...and no elevator. Unfortunately we were not told until we checked in and paid. I don't mind using the stairs but with a cart of luggage and an ice chest for our family a little laborious taking it to our room, which was adjacent to the elevator in the middle of the hotel, furtherest from the stairs. Surprised me by making no attempt to discount the room. Soured the otherwise good stay.

The staff was courteous and friendly.

The carpet in the common areas and the out side is in need of an upgrade. The famn in the room for the bathroom was a little loud.

I made a reservation and paid the pet fee in advance but they did not have a record of it when I checked in and charged me twice. I sent an email mentioning this and management sent back a reply stating that the fee should have been indicated when I made the reservation. Sent the screenshot of the reservation and the receipt with the pet fee listed - no response and no refund. Then they put me right by the entrance door which was very loud. Not the greatest idea when you have a dog. Their pantry was low and they close down their breakfast bar at 10am on Saturdays. The staff was very helpful but still seems very odd that they would close that down that early and not have anything available in the pantry at the same time. The parking lot was terrible-it's not very big. I'm not sure if the expectation is to have people park in the lots around the restaurants or mall but it's not an easy walk to get to if you are carrying luggage, a child or have any issues walking. There weren't many people staying there, apparently, because it wasn't an issue when I was there but it was weird and bad. I have family that live in Topeka and will never stay here again - for all of these reasons. I've stayed at many Courtyards and this was, by far, the worst. Usually Courtyards are pretty consistent but I was very disappointed in this one. I'd stayed at a courtyard in DC just a few weeks earlier and that location was great - everything that I expected from a Courtyard. Same deal with breakfast but they still had a full pantry.

The front desk worker made it very clear that he was annoyed we booked third party. Then we found a long black hair in our bed, neither of us have long black hair.
