"Gluten free success"

10.0

Great food. Great experience with gluten-free and dairy free dining. Very relaxing. Everything was pretty easy. First, I am celiac and eating gluten-free and dairy free at the restaurant and room service was easy. . I did not try the pool bar. It was pretty cool that weekend so we were not at the pool at lunchtime. The snacks that are provided in the room were not gluten-free. That was not a big deal for us as I felt like I have plenty to eat at the meals. I also cannot walk very far or for very long. The golf carts were readily available to take me where we needed to go on the resort with a quick response to a text message request. I did call the resort prior to our visit and request that our room have minimal steps or hills to reach it. They nicely accommodated me in a room close to the social house. Tips: schedule your spa treatments, and your dinner reservations before arriving. We also enjoy the falconry and a meditation. I would recommend both of them. We stayed 2 nights but 3 would have been perfect.

"Great Resort / Outstanding Staff"

10.0

This resort exceeding our expectations mostly due to the terrific staff. What I loved: our forest view suite, the hammock, the record player/bluetooth speaker, the space, the thoughtful nightly turndown, the prompt service, the restaurant food and bar, the activities. What I didn't love: I could hear the room above ours stomping around at 1:30am, that some activities were not available when we were there, and in the beginning the uncomfortable feeling of not tipping (however, we did get over it! LOL). We will 100% go back for more! The staff made our stay memorable.

"Bat encounter at the pool so spent trip in ER getting rabies shot then lied to about reimbursement of medical bills"

2.0

As parents of two young kids with a third on the way, my wife and I attempted to spend a 24 hour getaway at Ventana. Within 10 minutes of our arrival, a bat (yes a live bat) fell out of a pool umbrella and landed on my arm which I then shook off before it flew away. The next 8 hours were spent driving to and from the local urgent care, frantically trying to speak with doctors and eventually driving to Monterey ER to get rabies shots. The hotel knowing their negligence in not checking the umbrellas before opening them promised to pay my medical bills (we have in writing). Following weeks of back and forth with their insurance provider they sent me to, they then only offered to reimburse me if I sign a full legal release. Not only did they turn this trip into the most stressful 24 hour getaway, they lied about their response. I know this is a one off scenario, but this is not how a nice hotel should act. I will contract them with Ritz Carlton - I was scheduled to stay at the Ritz Carlton in Singapore the following week which I had to cancel last minute to finish my rabies shot treatment (requires 4 shots over 2 weeks). Despite a non-refundable booking I told them why I had to cancel and they immediately refunded me. Pretty incredible contrast to this Hyatt property which cause the issue and then did not even live up to their minimal offer to rectify.

"Tranquility Among the Trees"

10.0

It's like a sanctuary for the soul - this resort is a retreat that transcends a mere vacation, it can be a journey that redefines serenity. From the moment I arrived at Alila Ventana Big Sur, I knew I had entered a higher level of Hyatt hospitality. Nestled amidst the towering redwoods and overlooking the rugged, breathtaking coastline, this resort isn't just a place to stay—it's an experience that nourishes the mind, body, and soul. The layout of the buildings, the trails, and the location itself is a masterpiece and the free EV charging near the entrance is a nice and very convenient benefit. The resort is built into the landscape, with every turn offering a new, stunning picturesque view, whether it's the peaceful hush of the forest or the dramatic expanse of the Pacific Ocean. The short walk between my room and the main restaurant, Sur House, was a ritual I enjoy. To get to the dinner and brunch on the terrace, it was a tranquil stroll through the woods, with soft lighting at night making it feel truly magical. My suite is a perfect blend of rustic charm and modern luxury, complete with all of the modern amenities you'd expect and even an unexpectedly nice old fashioned rotary phone and a classic record player. The very comfortable bed, rich leather, natural stone, and a cozy fireplace with three complimentary bags of firewood created an inviting atmosphere that felt both grand and intimate. There are superbly crafted and recently renovated interiors and perfectly maintained exteriors that make this the ultimate Big Sur resort. Decks, terraces, and balconies are great for an afternoon drink or a bit of stargazing. I especially liked relaxing in a hammock between two redwood trees. After driving in traffic and hiking the grounds, the rainfall and wand 🚿 shower and the oversized soaking tub were welcome luxuries. Thoughtful touches like complimentary water bottles, bathrobes, slippers, sage bundles, turndown service added a unique, localized flair that made me feel even more connected to the place. The resort Staff are exceptional, professional, kind, and willing to go out of the way to give you a quick ride to anywhere on the resort in the electric carts. They will also take guests to nearby restaurants if their restaurant is too busy. The all-inclusive experience at Alila Ventana is in a league of its own. This is not your typical all-inclusive. Every meal, from the exquisite dinner at Sur House to the casual, delicious room service, was a divine and exceptionally delicious culinary adventure. The chefs' commitment to using fresh, local, and often on-site garden ingredients was evident in every bite. Waiters really hustle! The fact that I didn't have to worry about a bill at the end of my stay for meals or even gratuities was a profound relief, allowing me to truly relax and savor every moment. Beyond the lovely and luxurious accommodations, fine wines, and gourmet dining, what truly sets Alila Ventana apart is its dedication to creating a holistic experience. I took advantage of the wellness activities, including guided hikes through the redwoods, meditation, and sunrise yoga, which left me feeling refreshed and re-energized. The ocean view from the mountain pool at sunset is especially beautiful. The two pools and hot tubs, especially the Japanese baths, provided the perfect opportunity to unwind with a spectacular view. And for those who want to disconnect from the world, the serene atmosphere and lack of hustle and bustle is a welcome change. This is more than a resort; it's a fun and friendly experience for nature loving travelers. Alila Ventana Big Sur is a place for seekers, for romantics, and for anyone who wants to rediscover themselves in the embrace of nature. My stay here was a symphony of the senses—a masterpiece of tranquility, adventure, and unparalleled beauty. I left feeling not just rested, but transformed. I cannot recommend it highly enough. I'd highly recommend the frittata and Greek yogurt, apple juice and (fruit and veggie blend) green juice for breakfast.

"Favorite spa immersed in nature"

10.0

I spent a day at the spa here and it was excellent, probably the best outdoor spa I’ve ever visited. Kathleen at reception was friendly and helpful, and my massage with Devon was 10/10. It felt almost like our own private oasis, on top of a mountain ridge, overlooking the clouds. Don’t miss the Japanese hot baths located further up by the mountain pool. They have a special tranquility I loved.

"A Sanctuary in Big Sur"

10.0

Came here for 2 nights as a Hyatt Globalist. I think this resort is Hyatt’s way to thank all their loyal customers to this special retreat. We were upgraded to a Vista Suite which was 770 sq. Feet with a hot tub and stocked fridge. All your meals, snacks and non alcoholic beverages are included. Service was very good and a real friendly staff. The views are amazing as well as the hikes. The meals are amazing especially for dinner. Get Richard as your waiter and you can get the entire history as he has been here for 40 years. Their a 2 pools and a Japanese spa. The main pool has an infinity spa overlooking the valley of trees. Very impressive resort and if you need a few days to unwind you found your sanctuary!

"Still 5 star, not sure why some of the reviews have been mixed"

10.0

Having read some of lthe recent reviews expressing displeasure over the recent changes, I was happily surprised that my stay was still great. There have indeed been minor changes over the past year, some for the worse, some for the better. My worry was that the Ventana Inn had gone the same way some other favorites of mine have and just wasn't worth staying at anymlore. It's still in a category of its own, and if an all inclusive dog-friendly resort nestled in the redwoods with an ocean view is what you are looking for, this is it. My advice is to read the other positive reviews and take the negative ones with a grain of salt.
