Macdonald Burlington Hotel

Excellent location right opposite the train station with easy access to the city!

There was a party going on the night of my stay which was so loud I couldn’t sleep until they finished due to the heavy bass from the music.

The location and the air con was good. The staff were really lovely.

The TV is tiny - so old its hardly worth watching. I had some weird smears on the wall which were a bit gross. I think its overpriced for quite old, musty rooms that could do with a refurb. The beds were OK.

The options for breakfast were not that enough but many of them were sold out.

The breakfast is expensive but not meet the level of that price.

The hotel is very well located for the Station and Birmingham City Centre. I have stayed there many times and I like the history of the building and the room height and sizes

(1) the floor of the shower was so slippery that I fell immediately I stepped into it. It was like an ice rink and I can only assume that it is the result of either some kind of cleaning product or it has not been cleaned and I slipped in shampoo or shower gel that was left from the previous occupant. I was quite severely bruised and I hurt my head and back. (2) at around 7am we awoke to find the sprinkler dripping onto the bed and it quickly turned into a stream (3) there was no telephone in the room and so I used my mobile to call the hotel and the instruction was to press "4" for Reception - I did so to be told that this was an invalid key. This happened three times and I gave up. The water stopped but by this time both beds and the carpet were soaking wet.(4) some of the lights in the room did not work (5) When I reported all this to Reception on checking out I was told that the option 4 for the Reception hadn't worked for some time!

Room was spacious and clean the shower head leaked but was still useable TV was small but okay. Breakfast was good served by helpful staff. Some of the spaces were very warm that made it uncomfortable. Prefer soap to shower gel.

Staff amazing and very helpful

Compromised accessibility for wheelchair and walking stick users. There is a single step midway along the corridor of floor 2 which was a surprise for the wheelchair although we did not specifically book accessible room. Never seen that before. A lift from the arcade access point was declared out of order after we got stuck in it which is one of the main lifts that also connects floors to a function room which resulted in me carrying my wife’s wheelchair up/down stairs on several occasions.

Staff were lovely courteous and friendly. Location was good for rail and all of central Birmingham. Good breakfast too.

There were facilities to make tea and coffee but not any tea or coffee or milk supplies. Not a deal breaker at all but a shame
