"A welcomed treat"

10.0

What a great experience! We enjoyed the rooms and the lobby / breakfast area, as everything seemed to be well thought out. There was very little noise, even on the 1st floor where we were. The bed took a bit to get used to as we aren't accustomed to a foam/or pillow top mattress. The layout of the room was perfect (we found the in-room safe on our check-out morning!). I really appreciated the ability to plug into electricity to recharge our Prius Prime car. I was surprised that the charging process took so little time, too, as I am accustomed to regular house current. Where the Proches is located was also a plus making it way too easy to walk to Mass MOCA and nearby shops and restaurants. Many places to visit!

"Overnight stay in Western Mass"

10.0

Return trip for an overnight stay in this funky, comfortable and rather unique setting. Great location for Mass MOCA (walkable) and Clark museums.

"Charming room close to downtown with lots of amenities."

10.0

The location was excellent, a quick walk to downtown for shops and restaurants. The room was upstairs, and was large and clean. It had a great claw foot bathtub, separate shower and a nice sitting area with 2 comfy chairs and an ottoman. The only downside was that the porch faced (and was very close to) another unit's porch. Since it was winter it didn't matter but if booking b/c you want to sit outside, it would be awkward if other people were out there. They have a performance venue where we saw a great band. It was so nice to be able to just walk out of room and down the lane to see a band. I didn't use the heated pool, hot tub or sauna but lots of other guests did and they seemed to enjoy them. It said there was a fitness room too, but I never saw that. There is an amenity fee of $20. The included breakfast was excellent and had a large selection of options. Lox, bagels, hard boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, potatoes, granola, cereal and the best local, organic creamy yogurt! The reception area also has some other rooms with seating and games where you could hang out if you wanted to. Easy to check in. I can't remember if it was mentioned when I made the reservation or not, but the stairs to upstairs are steep. I had no issue, but someone that wasn't very strong (you have to carry your luggage up and down the stairs) or good with balance would have an issue. Overall, a great experience with the room, amenities, check in and check out.

"The ideal stay"

10.0

The Porches is the cleverest hotel experience I know. Everything is designed for your comfort and delight. It's just on the other side of the culvert from the Mass MoCa Museum, my favorite on the universe.

"Still a good place, but not what it was..."

6.0

For the last 15 or 16 years, we have been going to Porches at least once a year. Though it is still very nice, it has changed over the years. What was once a very unique and special place is now more of a 'hotel' with a more generic feel. That's the problem with having a long history with anything - you remember how it was, and you see how it has changed.

"Nice concept, wildly overpriced."

4.0

The Porches is an interesting concept, but it's wildly overpriced. At nearly $400 for a single night with a breakfast that was not much different from what you'd find at a Ramada Inn or a Marriott, it's simply not a good value. There was frigid air leaking through an ill-fitting window in the room, and noises from the hall, exterior doors, and from upstairs passed through the walls and ceiling. Clearly the idea is to capture the well-heeled art hound set from NYC and Boston. Convenient to MassMOCA, but big city prices in little ol'North Adams? Uh-uh. Not going back.

Unpretentious and โ€œhomeyโ€ yet well done with nice amenities and a higher end feel. Enjoyed the hot tub on cold evenings. Excellent breakfast and coffee. Fridge stocked with beer and wine I would actually drink if in the mood. Staff friendly. Well done.

Consider an upgrade for the lounge if practicable. However, there was nothing that I didnโ€™t like.
