The Porches Inn at Mass MoCA

Unique physical experience - constructed from conventional houses. Kept the industrial look going along with Mass MOCA which was a former electric motor factory. Has wonderful pool and hot tub.

The unique interior deign and furnishings are definitely the selling point. Unfortunately, we had not stayed there before, so when we booked, we didn't know enough to request a room removed from the main reception. Ours was above the front desk and breakfast room. Door slamming, dining chairs being pulled in and out, dishes clanking, staff chatting and eagerly engaging guests all contributed to disturbed rest. Not anyone's fault per se, but stay away from those rooms!

The idea of The Porches is great: How it is a reconfiguration of 20th century working class living, how it is connected to one of the most amazing art museums my husband or I had ever experienced. The people behind the front desk were also real humans and as helpful as they could be. While many people consider The Porches "Grandma Chic" to be cute, it wasn't particularly comfortable to us or our style. But our REAL ISSUE was the utter rigidity of The Porches' policies. We mistakenly checked the wrong box when we made our reservations in February. I was to be officiating at a wedding in late August and we checked the box for 4 nights (non-refundable) before realizing that we only needed to be in town for two. A full two months before the wedding we appealed to the management to let them know we had made a mistake. We called and begged and were told repeatedly NO REFUNDS.,THIS IS OUR POLICY. We had to pay for the entire four days, unless the room sold. We withdrew our reservation so they could put the room back "on the market." Of course it never sold. We were stuck with a whopping bill, which ate up my entire wedding fee and then some. We will not return to THE PORCHES. The harsh inflexibility of the management does not match the "cuteness" of the place.

The experience was really unique and the location of The Porches is the best feature — right across the street, free parking, easy access. But, it’s VERY expensive and, if you liked your Grandmother’s guest room, then this is the place for you. It’s nothing fancy. In fact, the lobby in the “Blue Rooms” smells like a bar at 2am. The recycling bin might be better placed outside. Bfast is pretty basic, but fresh and good coffee.

Very neat and clean, cozy unique room with plates on the wall. Rocking chairs in front on the porch. Just charming! They also gave us a free upgrade!

A welcoming and comfortable place. Enjoyed breakfast room and availability of a small bar. Easy walk to MassMoca

Funky, boutique vibe and very creative use of an old factory housing eyesore. NOISE. The hotel is just a sidewalk away from River Street in North Adams which is heavily traveled by trucks and speeding loud vehicles. Impossible to sit and enjoy the front porch in conversation.

Fantastic breakfast, perfect location, fun vibe, beautiful pool area, an environment that encourages conversation with other guests. Room was spacious but needed a nightstand on either side of the bed.
