Centrally located property in midtown on Esplanade. I wanted to have easy access to the French Quarter south of the hotel on Esplanade. I walked from Frenchmen to the hotel in 20-25 minutes and it’s about 10 minutes by car depending on traffic. The GOOD - The buildings aesthetically beautiful, antique furniture, authentic NOLA character with oak trees and Degas sculpture at the front. The master chefs of the kitchen Ms Sharon Ms Alma and Ms D are a formidable team. Best food I eat my entire trip and they took care of me like family. I stayed in the Josephine which had a window looking out to the neighbour’s balcony. The sheets were soft, bed comfortable and I slept well. The BAD- Reception desk has limited hours. I arrived late at night I had to retrieve my key from a drop box. Which worked well but it was not a warm welcome for a stranger in a new city. I never met the manager at all. I checked out the way I arrived. It’s an old historic building so the walls are thin and noise travels easily. There is of course no elevator and a lot of stairs. Lugging my suitcase to my room was no easy feat. The UGLY - The house is in dire need of repair. Drain of the bath tub was blocked so soapy water collected around my ankles when I took my bath. Face basin was rusty and missing the plunger. The drawers of the antique chest were dirty and unusable. Floor boards were sinking, roof paint peeling. Pity. It’s a must visit for breakfast and tour of the house. Stay optional

I stayed on the third floor in the Gatson room, the room was okay clean, there aren't any windows in this particular room, tv, no phone within room, the do offer breakfast every morning from 8-10 which is pretty good, there is no elevator on property so be prepared to climb stairs overall great area close to everything, the rooms on second floors are nices and roomier than the 3rd floor.

"A worthy B&B for a NOLA house experience"

8.0

I’m from this NOLa neighborhood so I’m biased: the tour was great- more than I expected, very cultural; covered the artist, his family, his art, and NOLa history in 1800’s. The home has all the Victorian charm of 1850’s. The WiFi never worked on the 3rd floor. Also, 3rd floor cools off but be prepared to let AC do the cooling over a few hours upon arrival. I might do 2nd floor next time. The breakfasts were simple & delicious. Enjoyable chats with the staff. Great location. Cable was basic package and didn’t really have any attractive channels. Love the provided sketch pad & pencils as I had a 13yrold artist with me.

"When they answered, they said “it is not a hotel”"

4.0

Good side-great room and breakfast. Bad-another guest easily broke into room saying it was hers. Interior locks are cheap. All electric items were unplugged, so I had to move heavy furniture, including a 200lb plus bed to get things to work. Staff was aware that previous users had unplugged but did not address. Took awhile to reset alarm as normal buttons did not function. Worst issue was tv not properly set to work. Multiple voice mails seeking help were not returned for days and staff did not staff office during posted hours. When I finally got a response, was told that “this is not a hotel.” So bottom line, fine spot unless there is a problem because then you are on your own.

Overall, I was not in the house that is advertised in the photo. The pool was dirty our entire trip. They didn’t start cleaning it until we physically got there and it was way to dark to go swimming in it. It didn’t start clearing up until the actual day that we were leaving. The house was in poor condition. The walls were peeling in the bathroom. The shower and bathtub was peeling and carried a stench. It literally looked like a family just left and said here you go now you can stay. The interior wasn’t pleasant and the day we left, someone physically came in and left his wallet. I’m assuming he ran out once he realized that we hadn’t checked out yet. It was creepy and we ran out as soon as we saw the wallet. Someone had to be staying in the garage while we were there. We kept hearing noises all the time. I have pictures of the bathroom by the way-gross and disappointing unfortunately

The house and room were amazing. Breakfast was excellent. Staff helpful & friendly. The house tour was great & very informative. Very convenient location and parking easy. We would have appreciated a fridge & tea/coffee making facilities though.
