"Excellent, already booking again!"

10.0

We regularly stay at Melia hotels and this is one of the best. We stayed half board at The Level as we feel that the extra touches make our holiday special. Our warm welcome, glass of cava and thorough explanation of the hotels services at The Level reception was wonderful- exactly what you expect at a 5* hotel. Our bags were promptly taken to our room and once there, the room services were also explained- an excellent start. Our room was a Level Superior Ocean view suite. A good size, plenty of space and storage, double sinks in the bathroom, and a lovely sea view. All other info on Melia website, it’s exactly as described and photographed. The hotel is spread out over I believe, six floors which are separated by small flights of steps, pretty wooden walkways and beautiful gardens. There are lifts if you don’t want to walk but we liked doing a little exercise. Pool areas- we didn’t use the main pool as we preferred The Level pool which was quieter (no music) with plenty of thickly padded loungers. There were Bali beds for an extra charge, but I’m not a fan of these. There was a drinks area- cool lemon water/water with cups provided to help yourself as well as a (chargeable) pool waiter service. Toilets also nearby. The main pool was much bigger, with lots of subeds to choose from but had a different, less refined feel. The sunbeds had much thinner padding than The Level ones and beds were closer together. The ladies toilet was a single large disabled access cubicle, maybe I missed the others? The pool bottom surface had paint missing from the bottom in multiple areas. I believe this is related to pool activities/pool bikes but it does need to be attended too. I think if I wasn’t a Level guest I would be a bit disappointed for a 5* hotel. It did have a ‘Grab & go’ bar and food ‘hatch’ area (extra charge) and also the gym (no air con) nearby. Food- we stayed half board, not something we normally do. Breakfast at The Level area was great- a menu, fully adaptable and cooked to order with drinks and food at your table. There was also a self service buffet which was lovely. Be sure to wait to be seated or they won’t know you are there- I’ve seen a few negative reviews about wait times but we didn’t have a problem at all. Being really picky, the hot drinks could be better presented. At other Melia hotels the Coffees came in a big cafe style mug with a decoration in the foam whereas ours came in a small mug as you get from the coffee machines. I’m sure all feedback is appreciated, no matter how minor. Snacks and drinks were available all day at The Level lounge all as listed on the website. There was also the cocktail of the day you could access, with ingredients and instructions which was a nice touch. Tapas and premium spirits were available 4-6pm. Being really picky, the snacks were all removed- even nuts and crisps several hours earlier than the 10pm Level close time. Other Melias have it all until close, maybe worth looking at? Buffet restaurant- excellent! As half board guests we could have breakfast here too as well as dinner (drinks as well as water chargeable). Once again, you waited to be seated, which I liked, and you could eat inside or outside which was lovely. The restaurant has beautiful views over the sea, which we loved. Breakfast and dinner buffet food was excellent, with show cooking (scallops, huge prawns fish and steaks) and a nightly theme to prevent repetition. The service was outstanding, plates taken away as soon as empty, drinks offered and served quickly, waiters checking you had everything you need- well done Melia- we were impressed. There are two à la carte restaurants, we had lunch in the grill which we really enjoyed. These are extra charge but not overly expensive. Activities- These were included and bookable on the app or at reception. Highly recommend the cocktail making, wine tasting and cooking-great fun! What makes this hotel special is the staff, every single person was smiley, helpful and genuinely seemed to want to make sure to you enjoyed your stay. Will we be back? Absolutely, for a UK winter holiday, we are already looking at November.

"Lovely hotel with a fantastic view."

8.0

Good location just on the outskirtsof costa adeje. Its up a slight hill which gives it a fanstastic view over costa adeje & the sea, especially from its bar & dining terrace. We loved sitting out on the bar terrace of an evening just looking at the panoramic views. Its Adults Only hotel which meant quiet vibes round entire hotel especially the pool areas. The outside communal areas looked great with waterfalls & little humpback bridges. There were quite a number of steps to get to different levels which suited us and gave us a little exercise. Even though there were lifts, this hotel may not suit people with mobility issues. Night time music entertainment was excellent and not overly loud that you could not hold a conversation. Our room was clean & quite large with a great balcony view over the resort, however some rooms seemed to have outdoor areas directly onto the communal areas which might not suit some. Food was decent but I would not say exciting. Regular soft & alcohol drinks were a reasonable price as we went half board. However cocktails were expensive considering they were out of a bottle. Most of the staff were lovely & friendly, however you do get one or two miserable bar staff. The pool areas had a is clean with lots of sunbeds. All the staff here were helpful & friendly serving drinks & food from a little bar next to the gym. The gym was very clean and equipment was in really good order. There was no air conditioning but there was mobile fans to circulate air which seemed to keep the gym fairly cool. Overall it was a lovely stay at a lovely hotel and we would not hesitate to come back to it.

"Not a great second stay"

6.0

This was not our first stay in this hotel. I’d booked our rooms ten months before our trip and specifically requested the same rooms as our previous trip. A few months before we arrived I again reiterated our request and at that point I was told we’d have to upgrade. Bear in mind that on our first visit we never upgraded we were simply given the rooms. So we upgraded, paid more and again reiterated that we weren’t fussed about the room number we just wanted a sunny terrace with sunbeds and we were told they would accommodate us as best they could. We did need to alter our dates nearer the time (costing more). A few days prior to arrival I emailed to again confirm my room request. I didn’t receive a response which in itself was poor. Upon arrival we were shown a dark room at the back of beyond with a postage stamp balcony obscured view and two chairs that barely fitted. This was meant to be a junior suite by the way and the beds were twin, we are a married couple. Obviously we complained but for over an hour and were told that there was nowhere else for us but that our request would be honoured the next day and we could have a free dinner on the house to make up for it. Note it was not peak season. We were unhappy as we were only there for a week and nobody wants extra upheaval on day one after travelling the whole day previous. Dinner was also pretty basic by the way, hardly a sweetener. The next day as requested we went to reception after breakfast and we were told we couldn’t have the room we wanted without paying 300 euros as we had only upgraded to a garden room. Well, no rooms overlook anything but a garden as far as we could see as the sea is quite a way from the hotel. 15 minutes walk and despite my numerous requests this was never pointed out. Eventually the incredibly brusque and surly receptionist gave us a nicer room without the terrace we wanted but at least the room wasn’t dark and had a better size outside space. That day we took ourselves to the pool, got comfortable and then Workmen started using a pneumatic drill directly behind us to repaid some damage. The sound was deafening and as most people go to a pool to relax, it was far from relaxing. Why not place a sign warning people of the noise and redirect them? Or corner off the area? When we asked them to stop they said it would take an hour. The pool attendant Borja just shrugged and said there was nothing he could do so my husband trudged to reception who said they’d stop it. Needless to say the workmen didn’t stop so my husband went back to reception and the receptionist Sylvia Zamora came down and was unbelievably rude and unhelpful insisting the work had to be carried out despite the fact that the weather was due to cloud up later and us suggesting they wait until then to carry repairs out. So we had to move. Not what you’d expect from a 5 star hotel. The weather wasn’t great and while that is not the hotel’s fault, they closed the pool restaurant and bar for days as a result but it was still warm enough to sit by the pool. So we couldn’t order food or drink in 72 degrees of heat for days because of this. Not ideal as the other bar is a good five minute trek upstairs. On the plus side, room was decent and spacious. Housekeeping excellent. Having stayed at many Melia hotels (Gran palacio, Seville, Madrid, Barcelona) thus completely ruined our Melia experience and wouldn’t want to repeat it. The reception staff are beyond unpleasant when really they should bend over backwards. Oh and the room we wanted remained empty throughout the duration of our stay despite them admitting they were at fault for not communicating properly and misguiding us. Breakfast was average. The choice was the same every day which gets boring. Lack of dried fruit and bananas very brown. Two yoghurt choices (strawberry or natural) little yoghurt pots that were sloppy. Terrible coffee. Bar food sandwiches were awful. Soggy bread and overcooked (possibly microwaved) filling. The grounds were nicer than we remembered but the overall experience not as good as a few years ago. A shame. Not a 5 star, more a 4 star.

"Well done Jet2. Another great hotel."

10.0

Fantastic hotel with great views, friendly staff and a short walk (or free shuttle bus) to the resort centre and beach. Plenty of scheduled activities at various times of the day. We particularly enjoyed the Barraquito making class with Luisa, Daniel and Diana. We would definitely stay here again if we come back to Tenerife.

"Amazing Coffee Workshop"

10.0

Did the Barraquito coffee workshop with Luisa, Daniel and Diana. They were fun, great at explaining the coffee and how to make it. The coffee was delicious too. Thank you so much team! They were also super accommodating to those in the workshop who were alcohol free / lactose intolerant so everyone could take part :)

"Nice hotel, good location, stunning views – that's about it."

8.0

Generally, it’s a beautiful hotel, in a good location with stunning views – particularly in the evening at sunset. Really gorgeous. But, we probably won't return (see below for fuller review). ALL INCLUSIVE – THE LEVEL + The Level is, in theory, a nice ‘special’ for the hotel. The Level lounge, while small, is nice, with drinks and snacks available all day. The breakfast lounge is nice, and we preferred eating there over the main buffet restaurant upstairs. - For us, all-inclusive really wasn’t worth it. And, objectively, it’s not worth it. The Level bed and breakfast probably is, OR ‘normal’ all-inclusive probably is. But not both. There's lots of food/drink options that aren't included in the all-inclusive package (so, it's not really 'all-inclusive'!). The Level ‘exclusive’ pool on the 5th floor was always very busy and actually didn’t feel exclusive at all – to the extent that we didn’t actually ever go there again after the first day. The staff at breakfast were overworked and the ‘a la carte’ was inefficient — on one occasion, we asked 3 times for coffee and gave our food order twice, all to three different people; and on another occasion, our juice and coffee arrived after we’d already finished eating. ROOM (107) + Our room was generally clean and well appointed. It had a great pool and ocean view, too. The toiletries are lovely too, all Rituals brand. - It was very big and echoey, not soundproofed and very loud at virtually all hours. We could hear footsteps and trolleys (e.g., maintenance, housekeeping) rolling along the hallway, people talking outside, and banging around from the room upstairs and next door. The air conditioning was temperamental and was also noisy. This all meant we didn’t sleep particularly well most of the week, unfortunately. The floors were also filthy; our white socks were black by the end of the week! HOUSEKEEPING - They come early — twice before we’d even gone to breakfast (at 10/10:30am), even on the day we were checking out. They also don’t replenish coffee and water, unless you request it or happen to be in your room when someone knocks asking. 4 out of 7 days we had no coffee or water replenishment (because we weren’t in the room). We also had been missed by housekeeping on two days, and had to call for new towels (which then took over an hour). BUFFET RESTAURANT + There was a huge amount of choice, and we ate reasonably well all week. - The food didn’t taste particularly high quality, and some dishes felt a bit like a school dinner! The salad and dessert choices were virtually the same all week, which was disappointing. And the Lunch offer was generally quite poor, and also virtually the same every day. As above, in hindsight, we wished we’d only done bed and breakfast, so we could go out for dinner. SERVICE GENERALLY + Our arrival was swift and the concierge/The Level service desk were great, as was the bar (on floor 5) service – the staff were friendly and efficient. - There’s a lot of staff at this hotel; but it’s all remarkably inefficient. At almost every meal, we waited quite a long time to be served. At one dinner, we waited nearly 15 minutes for our drinks order to be taken (by which point, we’d already eaten our entree).
