"Meliá Jardines Del Teide – A Honeymoon of Highs and (Very Deep) Lows Serious raw food issues"

4.0

Rating: ★★☆☆☆ (2/5) I visited this hotel back in 2022 and deemed it the best in Tenerife. Returning in April 2026 for my honeymoon, I’m torn. While the cleaning staff are doing a fantastic job, the service, food safety, and management have gone downhill massively. The Positives & Travel Tips Housekeeping (10/10): I am a cleaner for a living, so I have very high standards. Our room was immaculate every single day. The room also had a lovely, nice-sized balcony. I must add though on the last morning at 9am we had housekeeping knocking and coming into our room and we tried to communicate with them that we wouldn't be checking out till nearer the 12pm mark because we have a late flight I don't understand why they were knocking and coming in when we hadn't checked out yet Pool Area: The area was tidy and there were no "sunbed wars." However, the sunbeds themselves really need an upgrade as they are quite grubby also must add there isn't handle bars going into the pool at step areas so if you are unsteady on your feet you'd have the walk to ramp area for stability Monkey Park Tip: If you are going to Monkey Park, get the bus and walk the last 15 minutes. Have your wits about you and keep to the side of the road, but you will save around €70 compared to a taxi! Shopping Tip: Use the "Dinos" supermarket (10-min walk). Don't be fooled by the 24-hour one nearby; walk another 5 minutes further for much cheaper prices. ⚠️ Serious Food Safety & Dining Issues The kitchen and service standards are where the hotel fails: Dangerous Meat: On Indian Night, the chicken skewers were raw. On Mexican Night, the taco meat was visibly pink mince. My partner’s steak was served "blue" when they asked for rare. Dining Service: Drinks orders were taken halfway through our meal or we had to flag someone down. Often, I was finished eating by the time the drink arrived. Breakfast: We arrived at 8:30 AM every day and the food was cold every single morning and this is only half an hour after opening The food is nothing like it was back when I last visited I actually feel embarrassed how much I hyped this hotel to be to my new husband and it wasn't what I expected Facilities & Service Letdowns Entertainment Seating: On popular music nights, like the rock band, if you aren't seated by 7:30 PM, you aren't getting a seat. The Bar: The refurbishment moved the bar and made it much smaller. In 2023, the cocktails were 10/10. Now, they are just basic drinks with ice and you’ll queue for ages. Note: They don't accept cash at the bar. Honeymoon & Staff: Despite booking months in advance/mentioning it was our honeymoon and told by email twice there would be something special for us arriving, we arrived to an empty room. I do admit I did go down to reception and ask as we were disappointed and they did give us champagne and fruit the next day which we are grateful for but takes away what could have been a lovely surprise on arrival I felt embarrassed having to ask but this is a special moment in our lives. When the lifeguard was missing from the towel station, reception actually told us off for not dealing with them—we would have if they were actually there! Power Cut: On the hottest day, the power went out and the bar stopped serving drinks entirely On our arrival night we missed dinner by 10 mins and on our last day we left at half 5 missing dinner when I mentioned this to reception I asked if we could do lunch on last day instead and they agreed which was great. It might not be like this for everyone though! I must admit though communication between reception and dining room wasn't efficient I had to explain when entering for lunch as our room number didn't work on IPad as reception said again embarrassing. The housekeeping team are the stars here, but the management and kitchen are letting them down. I am sure the hotel will reply with plenty of excuses, but as a returning guest who once loved this place, these are my honest views. Between the raw food and lack of basic hospitality, I can no longer say this is the best in Tenerife. It is a shadow of its 2022 self. The best part of this hotel for me is churros for breakfast 🍳🤣🤭

"Lovely hotel with great views"

10.0

Hotel staff and views where lovely, clean and friendly hotel, room with views was lovely but basic inside for 5 star Downside was we went all inclusive and you basically only get buffet restaurant included the 2 other restaurants you get 50% off and the other one you have to stay 5 nights or more to get 1 free meal. Water was only provided in your room on the first night which I thought was a bit bad but I was able to pick up small bottles of water at pool and bring to room , I also emailed the hotel before staying to mention it was our special birthdays both becoming 50 but nothing was mentioned or done just a little touch from hotel would have been nice, on check in we got there early but room was not ready and they told us to return back at 3 which was a shame as most places I’ve been have had room ready but it states 3. You can walk down to the beach around 10-12 min walk but hilly so wouldn’t be great for anyone with mobility issues Overall great stay and the staff in lounge bar where so happy and so so nice they made our stay shout out to Jonathon and valentina they were just great every night always happy absolutely lovely to see and be apart off, entertainment every night which was also good. Yes we definitely would go back

"Highly Recommended"

We have recently returned from a 10 night stay over the Easter period and I can find very little fault with this hotel. The entire staff team and the service provided was excellent. Without exception the staff team were friendly, respectful and willing to help. The hotel itself is a short and steep walk from the beach but transport is provided by the hotel if you feel inclined to leave the hotel grounds. Of course it is possible to find room for improvement and a broader selection of branded drinks on the all inclusive package would be one of those areas. The hotel has notices on every sun bed asking people not to reserve them but sadly, some territorial humans can’t help themselves, but to be honest there is no shortage of loungers no matter the time of day. If you want a peaceful adult only hotel away from the centre of the resort then this definitely fits the bill.

"Magnifique séjour, dommage le buffet..."

9.0

"Magic at the Melia"

10.0

Is this hotel for you? If you are looking to take your children away to Tenerife, don't look at this hotel. It is DEFINITELY adults only - have a nice day! :) Mobility - the hotel is set on many different levels, and whilst there are plenty of lifts and bridges for access, it may well be a challenge. Your call. Beach - if you want a beach hotel, then this is not for you. It is a 10 minute walk down to the local beach and (about!) a 30 minute walk back up! Noise / party: if you want a hotel where the guests are up partying until 6am and throwing up in the gardens - this is NOT for you:) There are activities / music every night, but it's usually finished by about 10:30pm. Still reading? OK - this could be for you! Melia Jardines is a hotel on the south coast with stunning sea views, set up slightly away from the town. It is only 20 minutes by car from Tenerife's South Airport yet I only saw - saw, not heard - one plane all week! The hotel is spotless - plenty of cleaning and gardening going on all of the time. Everyone is friendly and in spite of it being a fairly large ish hotel, it doesn't feel crammed in or too busy. It's spread over different floors, with floors 6 and 7 having the best views of the sea. We were in room 604 - great view, large terrace too, which gets the sun more or less all day. (Thank you to our cleaning staff - our room was spotless all week, thank you so much!) Average age of guests: ranged from young people in their 20s to people in their 80s. It caters for all and everyone is made to feel welcome. Food: it's great, really fabulous. Plenty of choice - both hot and cold - it also caters for veggies and GF. Loads of it too. Every night has a different theme to the food choices. Staff: the staff make this place so special. From the moment we arrived, to when we left, we felt like we were part of their family. The Levels: you pay a bit extra for being in the Levels, which gives you access to a more compact dining area for breakfast, with wait staff as opposed to a buffet. Plus the Levels has its own swimming pool, with loungers. Sadly, people still feel the need to 'bag' a lounger by placing a green towel on it, which meant that invariably it was seemingly full, yet many of the loungers were unoccupied. There is another beautiful pool - at the very bottom of the resort - with plenty of space around it, loads of loungers and there is also a pool restaurant down there for food and drinks. Again, it is spotless. The Levels also gives you access to Casa Nostra (for free) - fabulous Italian restaurant. Really amazing food and plenty of it. We spent our wedding anniversary there - it was such a lovely evening. The food was tremendous, speedy service and everyone was delightful. All inclusive: we were all inclusive - which clearly, as the name suggests, gives you access to everything and I do mean everything! Staff - as mentioned - they make this place and go out of their way to make your stay a fabulous one. To name but a few with whom we really gelled: Julian, Ivan (the trainee), Natalia, Lisbet, Lara, Angel, Marena and Carlos - who had lived in London and with whom we had a good chat about British police! Many others were involved in making our stay a fabulous one, but we really enjoyed the company and warmth of these listed above. Thank you so much for helping to make our stay amazing. Melia Jardines del Teide - thank you for a warm and wonderful week. It was our first visit and we will definitely be back! Jonathan and Peta in room 604. Random info: El Teide - we hired a car from Hertz - brilliant - and drove to the volcano. Didn't go all of the way up but went as far as the Roques in the national park. The views are something else! Los Cristianos town - lovely sandy beach. About 2.5 miles away. Busy town, with lots of bars, restaurants, shops etc etc. Car hire: Hertz in San Miguel - booked online and collect in San Miguel. V easy. Lovely staff, all of whom speak English. V easy to sort out. And quite reasonably priced.
