"Excellent"

Very friendly staff overall, great service from the staff at reception, we asked for ice and an entire bucket was delivered to us. I had requested prior to the stay, and was given, a room close to reception, so the hotel is good at listening to requests, Standard room with double bed, small but more than adequate for a one-night stay. Had dinner at the hotel restaurant, which was good, but the restaurant was very quiet, not sure if all clients know it offers more than just breakfast – although the hotel is right by the V&A Waterfront, so there is a wide variety of restaurants available. Only two issues, housekeeping only provided decaffeinated coffee sachets, I’m sure I could have called reception for normal coffee but I just wanted a cup of coffee before I showered, didn’t want to start dealing with reception at that hour of the morning… the shower was not great, it didn’t seem to be balanced – I couldn’t get a consistent water temperature and the water pressure was terrible. The hotel is currently undergoing “soft refurbishment” so hopefully this will include looking the showers.

"Exceptional"

We absolutely loved staying at this hotel. My husband and I got married in Cape Town while we stayed here and we loved all the conveniences. It’s in the waterfront district so you can easily walk to all the shops and dining and it’s super safe. We had no problems walking on our own at night and felt completely safe- that was a big deal for us as most places are not like that. Beautiful rooms and great food. We loved our stay here- no complaints at all.

"Centrally located and would recommend"

Very centrally located short walk to the waterfront and across the street from the shopfront of the hop on hop off bus at the start of the route. Staff were attentive and friendly and helped us book a tour to the Cape of Good Hope. Breakfast was delicious and there were plenty of choices.

"Loved it"

I really couldn't fault my stay. The hotel itself is fascinating - an old colonial 19th century with it's history literally engraved on the walls. The staff were fantastic and the room was so comfortable. If you want to do trips our outings they have a really nice lady there who will book them for you (you get picked up from the hotel). It's right by the waterfront which is great (but try and venture further afield)..I could have stayed another week

Spent a week there while attending a conference in the same compound. It's very convenient for those attending conferences, but it is otherwise rather standard Marriott brand. In comparison to other options it seems a bit overpriced.

It’s great that this hotel offers family rooms and is super close to the V&A. We have stayed a couple of times now and both times we have been woken very early (about 5am) by other guests or noisy pipes. This is not a quiet hotel

"Deceptive staff tried to overcharge for downgrade"

I booked a 4-night Corner Suite/King 4 months ago. Arrived into the country today and the room I reserved was not available so Front Desk Employee Taylor put me in a downgraded room but tried to charge me the same price for the Corner Suite. When I pointed out the discrepancy, she was at first evasive about it being a downgrade, saying "it's a business suite". Yes, I know, and it is not as nice as the corner suite, which is why I booked the corner suite and not the business suite. Then Taylor said, "so are you not checking in then?" What kind of response is that?? Not at all helpful. Then Front Desk Employee Ashley came over and again handed me a paper to sign with the overcharged rate. Wrong. At first Taylor said there wouldn't be a Corner Suite available at all during my 4-night stay, but Ashley said he would make sure I got moved after the first night. I have very little confidence in this crew to make good on any representation they make. I specifically endeavored to avoid this very situation by responding to Reservation Sales Associate Michaela Cornelius's email confirming the room type ahead of time, but then got an out-of-office reply. Again, not helpful. Bottom line: 1) don't bother reserving a specific room type bc they will disregard it anyway; and 2) CHECK YOUR RATE BC THEY WILL TRY TO SCAM YOU. It was a mistake choosing this hotel for our Cape Town vacation.
