The Windsor Hotel Toya, Vignette Collection by IHG

We only stayed one night but due to rainy weather most of the time we cannot see anything outside the windows of the entire hotel, except heavy fog. This hotel is a true 5 star and has plenty of great restaurants including 3 Michelin starred restaurants, with 1, 2 and 3 stars, respectively. Food there is "Michelin" expensive but if you have the full view (without any fog), it's not unreasonable to try them out. Hotel room and facilities are up to 5 star level, but the on-site onsen is OK and not on par with other traditional Japanese hotels. The outside natural environment is very large, good for general relaxation, exercising, biking and golfing.

Cannot ask for more. Very relaxing with professional staff and clean:quiet rooms.

overall is fine and every friendly staffs and good hospitality except a teppanyaki manager whom was on duty on sep 7th at the dinner time whom has a bad behavior.

Hotel is very good, staff are very helpful though most of them still need to improve the English speaking capability. Room is nice, great view, the location is far away from the lake but very quiet, like it.

Room is spacious, beautiful ocean view and very professional service.

Very luxurious

We have booked 7 rooms at this hotel, for 13 persons for one night. Fully understood that reservation is needed for all the Michelin starred restaurants. However, for the other 3-4 standard cafe/restaurants within the hotel, I would expect walk-in should be alright as no reservation is being mentioned on the website. We checked-in around 6pm but was told that only room-service was available. Given there's no choice and we didn't want to make all the trouble to drive to the town during heavy snow night, we picked room-service. Since we wanted to have dinner together in a big group, we make a request, if there's any bigger room available or if we can use the lobby cafe, which was closed with empty chairs at that moment. Unfortunately, they can't accommodate such a minor request after rounds of discussion and negotiation. Finally, we gave up and just squeezed the big group into one room for having dinner together. This was not the end of the story. When we checked out, there were bell boys at the lobby but they won't help you load the luggages into the car. They just standing there watching you to do it yourself. What an experience!!!

Everything was good except that the location is quite far away from lake toya. The hotel provides shuttle service to and from jr toya and lake toya. Hence, please check the timing and make reservations with the hotel. Because of the distance, we can hardly see the fireworks display from our room. Special thanks to Ms Noriko for attending to our queries so quickly and helping to make arrangements for us to visit the lake. Thank you very very very much for your efforts! ;))

Hotel staff except at western breakfast were excellent. The room had a beautiful view of the lake Toya but our picture window was somewhat fogged up (lost vacuum between glass panels) so was a disappointment. Breakfast was also a disappointment. Need more maintenance here and there.

Most staff were poorly trained for such a expensive hotel. Actually they were poorly trained for Japan in general. I've been to fast food restaurants where they treated customers better. Very rude. Never smiled. Sometimes looked outright annoyed when we asked questions. No one picked up when we called reception from the room (we tried multiple times). We had to get our own welcome drinks because the server didn't see us, although we were waiting to go to our room for +20min and there weren't that many people.... At dinner they ignore us when we asked someone to come over because they forget an item in my bfs kaiseki set. Overall the staff made the experience unpleasant. One of the worst I have ever experienced in Japan and I've been here for +4yrs. Honestly, stop by and visit the hotel, try the cafe, taste the foods, see the views, but do not stay here and deal with the staff it could literally ruin the experience.
