Holiday Inn Express - Charleston/Kanawha City by IHG

I booked this room on Bookings. When I reserved the room, the system said there were 4 rooms available. When we tried to check in we were told they were full, I had prepaid for the room. I was told I had to go through Bookings to get the refund. I reached out to Bookings. They sent an email to the hotel to verify we didn't stay. I also contacted the hotel giving them a heads up about the email. The hotel needed to verify the email. Process is still pending. It shouldn't be this difficult as we never stayed at the hotel!

The staff was very friendly and recommended a great restaurant.

The room smelled like cigarette smoke. The bathroom had mildew/mold around the tub. The softbed did have bedding. The 3rd floor window could be open completely, which could be a safety concern with regard to unsupervised children. The surrounding restaurants have mostly closed (gone out of business). The pool was closed due to ongoing issues. We had to go to the neighboring hotel to swim.

The parking area was small and seemed shared with another hotel. Construction was going on it seemed like. The room was clean and the lady that checked us in was helpful and friendly. The noise level was kind of louder than use to for hotels. We didn’t really hear anything from halls much but the room above us I guess a kid was running around at night and we could hear it all. Overall the room was spacious and nice.

The stay here was the best part of our vacation.

The breakfast was very good!

Convenient location.

The pool was the highlight for my kids after a long roadtrip. No complaints about the room.

Breakfast had a new employee helping so it took a bit longer, but she was doing her best.

Good overall

3 of us traveling. Had reserved 2 Queen-bed room. Got to room and it was not cleaned since prior guest. Could then only get room with 1 bed and couch-hide-a-bed (which was not good). Bathroom floor had little pieces of 'dirt'. Bed was too soft for me. We were on I-77 side of building and it was noisy all night.
