Hotel Abacus

We were coming in to town to stay for a wedding and called that afternoon to request an hour early check in to shower beforehand since check in is at 4PM and the wedding began at 5PM. We were informed it would be an extra $75 to check in any amount of time before 4PM which is over half the value of a one night at the hotel so we passed and decided to just shower quickly. It was very disappointing to enter the hotel room after our long day of travel and find that there was only one towel provided and the shampoo in the shower was completely empty with no time to rectify this situation. In a room with a King sized bed and a booking made for two people it should be assumed that more than one towel will be needed upon arrival. We took our mediocre shampoo-less shower and my boyfriend ended up having to use hand towels to dry himself. Not an experience reflective of a luxurious hotel. Besides our issues with the strict check in rules and amenities we also found out after arriving that parking would cost us extra even though the hotel owns a lot on the property. This was not disclosed at the time of booking and seemed like yet another way for the hotel to squeeze out just a little more profit from our stay.

It was Parent’s Weekend, so the place was packed. Our room smells like mildew/moisture - bad enough that you’re hoping the smell doesn’t get on your belongings. There wasn’t proper ventilation in the bathroom, so this seemed to be a cause. The location is wonderful, but we won’t be staying here again.

When I walked in the AC was running which was good. The room had a smell. The bed was below par. In my opinion it need to be replaced. Sunk down where most people would sit on the edge. The TV/Cable was bad. There was NO listing of channels. I had to call front desk to get a list. Oh, we can email you the list. Why not give it to me at check in.

Whoever said the place smelled like mold and mildew needs to get their senses checked, because all I smelled when I checked in was the cleaning products they use. I loved my stay at this place--from the chemical formula for Sweet Tea on a blackboard in my room, to the chill and friendly staff. The only thing I'd complain about is the shower chair in my room (I stayed in an accessible King suite). That poor thing needs to be replaced, because it looked pretty beat to hell.

Great hotel. Great location. CLEAN rooms with fun decorations. Nice large TV. Extra sink outside the bathroom (great fit getting ready in the morning). The best amenity however is the FREE bicycle access!! 5-6 bikes with 5 speed shifters and bike locks for you to explore the city! So cool. We were able to see everything we wanted (R.E.M. sightseeing trip) in a day because of this and so much more fun than driving and parking and walking over and over. Got the best rate, for a Thursday night in early Oct, by booking directly through the hotel website only 2 weeks in advance ($110/nt)!
