A nice upmarket hotel with a laid back feel

Cost of ordering drinks at poolside is eye wateringly expensive.

We had a nice stay and would happily come back. The rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean, beautifully maintained, and equipped with everything you could need. The hotel offers great facilities, and we especially enjoyed the swimming pool. Everything throughout our stay was comfortable and well looked after, and we genuinely have no major complaints. Overall, it’s a great hotel that we would definitely recommend.

If we had to mention a couple of minor drawbacks, the breakfast offers a wide variety of options and is very generous, but it wasn’t quite as impressive as we had expected. We also found that the soundproofing could be improved, as we could clearly hear people walking along the corridor and guests in the neighbouring rooms. Also they were painting the hotel and the smell was quite unpleasant.

The E&O is a beautiful, old world hotel in a great location. There are lots of food options and the breakfast buffet at Starkies has every type of food you could want.The infinity pool is amazing! The E&O introduced us to the best part of our trip, Zul, our driver/guide . My husband and I spent 3 fun days in George Town and needed a local guide to show us around and explain a bit about local life. Zul was very friendly, honest and flexible to our needs, especially when it came to coping with the heat. He took us on two half day tours, as well as to the airport in his cool, clean comfortable vehicle. Zul made us feel like old friends, not just tourists. It's a very big hotel with two wings and while it is beautiful, we felt a bit anonymous and didn't connect with any of the staff. There wasn't a games room and the lounge in the Heritage wing didn't open until 12noon. Given it rained on several days, a pool table would have been handy.

Lovely buildings and the staff were great. We really enjoyed our stay. We had a balcony room and it was very comfortable - roomy and a fabulous bathroom. The breakfast buffet was amazing. Also enjoyed the pool.

The hotel is so gorgeous. Anyone who likes history would love the incredible story of the place. The room was massive and the options for breakfast were amazing
