"Beautiful beach, very mediocre stay"

The beach is awesome. Beautiful and quiet. Really the beach is the main thing going for this hotel. However, there really isn't anyone helping set up umbrellas, so you do it on your own and there is not a close beach bar, so expect a bit of a walk if you want to get beverages.

This resort felt like one that Marriott has forgotten about. It is pretty run down, and the services were mediocre at best. At this price I would have expected a few more of the easy things that make hotel stays nice like enough towels for a tropical destination, the ability to make two servings of coffee in the morning (our room only had one when we checked in), and toilet paper without having to ask about it when we got to our room. And having chairs on the patio - the view from the room was gorgeous, but we had to drag the chairs in the room out to the patio each morning to have a comfortable sit. We only ate one dinner at the restaurant and it was average. I would not stay here again, unfortunately. It was a pretty far drive from everything else on the island so it wasn't worth the extra hassle of getting out there for what was not a very nice stay.

"My home away from home"

This has been the only place I would stay on the island. Backed by Marriottโ€™s quality and service. Iโ€™ve stayed here several times over the last year and greatly enjoyed every experience. The onsite restaurant has a delicious upscale menu. The bar is always the place to be to beat the heat. Customer service has handled every concern with top tier satisfaction. From the moment I check in to the day I check out they make me feel Ike family.

"A Safety Liability and the Worst Marriott in the Entire Brand"

We stayed at Carambola Beach Resort in St. Croix in March 2026 and had a serious guest safety issue that forced us to leave the property early. During our stay, someone entered our locked hotel room and stole cash from our young sonโ€™s wallet. When we reported it, hotel security stated they could not audit key card access, and management later confirmed that most of the property does not have functional CCTV coverage. In other words, there is effectively no ability to monitor or investigate security incidents on site. Separately, our daughter was injured in the resort pool due to unsafe conditions. The water was visibly discolored and obscured a ledge beneath the surface, which she struck with her knee, causing bruising and difficulty walking for several days. The pool area itself was in significant disrepair, with broken and jagged tiles and no staff supervision or first aid available. The General Manager acknowledged in writing that the property is in โ€œdesperate need of upgrades and repairs.โ€ That was consistent with what we experienced throughout the stay. Between the in-room theft and the unsafe conditions, we no longer felt comfortable keeping our family there and made the decision to leave the island early. This is not a service complaintโ€”it is a safety issue. Guests should be aware that basic security and maintenance standards may not be in place at this property.

"Set your expectations"

Pros and cons, depending on your perspective. First, make sure you have a rental car if you stay here. The property is a bit remote, with nothing nearby. Second, as others have mentioned, the property is older. Our room was clean, good sized, with a covered patio and fabulous ocean view. You can stay at luxury hotels on the island but the price is significantly higher. ($10k for a week vs. $2500) Also, architecture in the Caribbean takes a beating (literally) from hurricanes and general tropical weather. Third, the food at the property is mediocre. Itโ€™s not all-inclusive anyhow, so plan to eat mostly in town. There are a couple of restaurants just up the road that are good. Finally, some reviews complained about slow service. If youโ€™ve been to the Caribbean before, you would know that it is a laid back culture. If you want fast paced, go to NYC. In the Caribbean, take a deep breath of ocean air, relax, and be patient. Youโ€™re on island time! The only issue we had was one night we came back after kayaking and hoped to order room service. For some reason that was not shared with guests, they closed the kitchen a couple hours early. It left many folks without dinner, which was incredibly frustrating.

"Five star location, negative fifteen star for all else."

What a wonderful location; perfect beach, nestled into a very secluded and private area thatโ€™s very close to really nice restaurants and barsโ€ฆalso with nice beaches. Unfortunately, with very few exceptions, the staff at Carambola are rude, social reprobates that have zero business in customer service or food service. Take your pick; front desk, bar tenders, wait staffโ€ฆyouโ€™ll stand for minutes, sometimes more than 5 waiting for them to acknowledge you there, once they do and say; โ€˜can I help youโ€™ theyโ€™ll turn and continue the conversation with some friend/co-worker next to them. First night we ate at the restaurant there. Ordered appetizers, salad and main course, which included fish and chips. After nearly an hour wait, everything came at the same time. All foods that had been deep fried were completely cold. The fish was advertised as grouper, yet what was inside the batter was more akin to an inedible foam like chicken nugget from a fast food joint. Either way, completely inedible and not fit for human consumption! The โ€˜chipsโ€™ were overcooked mashed potatoes pushed through a playdough press into hot oil. When my wife took a bite of one, she immediately vomited into a napkin and on to the floor. Luckily for those who love this location, itโ€™s been taken over and will be torn down and rebuilt, and hopefullyโ€ฆnew management will not allow three inch fake nails, dreadlocks 5-6 feet long tucked into a Marge Simpson like hairdo, all of which have ZERO business in food service. Been all around the world and never, ever seen staff so sullen, rude, incapable of simple eye contact and acting completely put out that they have to do their job.

"Marella Discovery tour."

We spent a day at Carambola..All the staff made us so welcome.We were with a party from Marella Discovery Cruise ship and we were met in The Bell tower by a lovely lady serving complementary rum punch ..She may remember our conversation about Yellow Snow!!..Also a special mention to the lovely lady in The Dive Shop and Denisha (Nisha)...Who kindly took our photos and served us with a smile and a chat.... Wonderful pictures and memories. Thank you... Chris and Linda ... Surrey UK...
