"Nice but run down and over-priced for what it is"

6.0

It is a nice hotel, but once you pass the public areas/lobby etc the rooms are quite run down and water was leaking in the bathroom and AC not properly working. For the conditions it is in, this hotel is way too over-priced, especially considering there are several nice places much cheaper in the area and other "real" 5-star hotels not far either. Will not stay there again.

"Very disappointing"

4.0

The rooms, furniture, mattresses - including the sheets all had their prime back in the mid-70's. Staff was not helpful, actually acted like I was low rate because I booked with an online agency. An overly disappointing experience while paying top dollar for a room. Lest you think I am a bit picky - I have travelled in over 50 countries, 31 of which has been in Africa alone. I do not plan to ever stay here again which is disappointing as I have business in Senegal, but will stay elsewhere.

"large swimming pool and 4 tennis courts"

8.0

Constructed probably over 40 years ago the 5 stars are probably overrated. Overall impression is that not enough money is invested in maintenance. Rooms are large but bathroom too simple. Excellent tennis courts with coach and large pool. Plastic deck chairs are unworthy of 5 star hotel. Very kind service although very slow. Breakfast not good value for money and defenitely not 5 star. Ocean Restaurant also very expensive although quality was OK. We enjoyed the stay and would return again.

"Quiet location"

6.0

A little tired, the gym was very small, there was an issue over the mini bar where the hotel tried to charge me for the last resident's bill.

"King Fahd"

8.0

The nature of water shortages is typical of Dakar, so the fact the hotel is able to provide 8 hours of running water a day for showers and such during shortages is impressive. It is a convenient enjoyable hotel however I would consider it to be a 4 star hotel, not 5.

"Pleasing and relaxing for business and leisure"

8.0

I stayed one week with my 8 year old son and know this hotel very well from its earlier incarnations. I worked in town (30 mins, taxi 3,000 cfa, sometimes less after hard negotiation) while my son visited old school friends. We had no problems at all at the King Fahd. Free pick-up from airport and return. The staff were very friendly, efficient, helpful and did everything to make our stay pleasant. We stayed in an executive room which was spacious well equipped, clean and comfortable. TV needs children's channels! Room service v good; breakfast 14,000 per adult but very satisfactory. Pool area good and well looked after. Clearly the standard of the hotel has declined a bit from when it was Meridien - much furniture has gone, the children's play area was dirty and unkempt but apart from that, we enjoyed our stay very much. Competition and pressure on service will increase when the Sheraton opens in January just up the road but we will return to the King Fahd.
