Prestonfield House

Have stayed here 5 times so far, including 3 Christmases . It has never failed to deliver a complete fabulous experience, setting, unique rooms, (sooo comfortable), wonderful 17th century public rooms and restaurant, but best of all a happy team of staff many of whom are long term, and are on top of their profession. You must visit as part of your Edinburgh experience.

We’ve just had Christmas Day lunch at Prestonfield. Honestly it was exceptional. Food was stunning and the service perfect. Yes, it was pricey but it was absolutely worth it. Best Christmas meal out ever.

Blown away by the service and warmth of the people behind Prestonfield House. We attended a private dining Christmas Eve lunch and it was made so so special by the stunning surroundings and the exquisite service from Ewan. The door men were also such incredible helps as we had a young toddler with a pram and they did everything they could to make our experience seamless and relaxing.

Having booked months ago for lunch 27th December for 3, I rang to ask if it would be possible to come the following week one afternoon for Afternoon Tea for one, and a platter of sandwiches & Tea or indeed a drink for me as I have been given very strong antibiotics making cakes very unpalatable. Also the Festive Lunch menu is very gamey this year and making us want to cancel that booking. However I was informed very clearly that my suggestion re Afternoon Tea was totally unacceptable and would only be considered in February!!! We have come to Prestonfield House for various occasions for many,many years and in fact, came for lunch on Christmas Day the very first year James Thomson took over.

We attended the Christmas party night on 6th December. which is held in the stables at Prestonfield House. This is a night of good food a wonderful show to entertain the guests then dancing until 1pm. It is one of the best venues to celebrate Christmas with either work colleagues, friends or family. The event team and management do so much to make this a night to remember - we will be back in 2026.

We were here for a 1-night stay whilst attending one of the hotels Christmas party nights. The party night itself was excellent, but this review is for the hotel stay. We have stayed here numerous times over the years and this is the first time we’ve ever left anything less than a 5* review. The usual warm welcome was at hand, lovely check-in and, of course, stunning hotel room, as always. Decor is gorgeous. All the amenities you could wish for, and then some. The disappointment was for two reasons. Firstly, breakfast was incredibly underwhelming. Service was a bit erratic but it was the food that was the big let down. I was looking forward to my traditional Scottish cooked breakfast but, much to my dismay, everything was greasy and did not taste nice at all. It felt like cheap ingredients. Not something I would have ever associated with this hotel. Secondly, why the 11am check out?? You just feel like you are watching the clock for the entire you’re here. The Christmas party night ends at 1am. However, you’re already thinking about getting up, showers, breakfast and out by 11am! It really spoils the experience and would make us think twice about returning. This is an absolutely beautiful boutique hotel, of that there is no argument. We just felt really let down on this occasion.
