Highland Inn Peculiar

The person at the front counter was friendly and polite. Also the water pressure in the shower was unbelievably good. Otherwise I was pretty underwhelmed by our stay. The room wasn't quite dirty, but wasn't quite clean either. The A/C in the room did not get the room anywhere close to comfortable, but it was blowing some cold air. I wasn't a big fan of how firm the mattress was, but again wasn't a super big deal.

This place is clean and quiet. It's a basic room but again, it was clean, quiet and convenient for what we needed. They even let us check in early so we could get ready for an early evening wedding in Peculiar.

Hard to see signage need to clear trees away from signage. Staff friendly. Facility clean but old appropriate for cost.

When we arrived, we were aghast at the condition of the property--looked deserted! Walked in to a filthy 'lobby', if you could call it that, and no lights were on. A young gentleman was sitting at a table and said he had been there 15 minutes and no one came to the front. There was a 'ring' doorbell kind of apparatus sitting on the counter with a hand written note to use that or call some other number?? We rang the bell and waited...another 10 minutes passed, and a sleepy dude came from the back, and we made a quick determination that there was no way in hell we would stay in this place. Did I say FILTHY?? The floors, everything. My husband walked to the hall, turned around and went 'we are out of here'! We left and had to go another 10 miles to find another vacancy for the night. Their policy is NO REFUND, so we were out $$, but worth it to not stay one more second in that pig sty. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR $$!! This property should be REMOVED from all booking sites!!

The owner of the property was very helpful. I enjoyed the Dunkin Donuts that were offered for breakfast. What a treat!

The staff at this hotel was very helpful and getting me set in. They were all very courteous.

Wow! The service was friendly. They seemed to be doing some kind of work and there was a chemical smell throughout. This is a smoking hotel which is odd to us as most are not. The air conditioner did not work but we were nervous to say anything because when we checked in he said we were getting one of the best rooms and there did not appear to be very many rooms. Luckily it was 70 degrees and we opened the window which also helped with the smell. There were stains on the sheets and towels and hair on the toilet and in the shower. Breakfast was white bread and jelly, frosted flakes or corn flakes.

Manager was nice at the end. But Lobby area was undergoing remodeling and there was torn wallpaper, vending machines and table and chairs all over. No one was in lobby to check us in and no one heard bell. Had to go down hall to find someone to assist. The room was okay except for overwhelming smoking smell. However, it met our overall needs and was convenient to our activities.
