Extended Stay America Select Suites - Hartford - Manchester

I've never walked out of a hotel before, but we turned around and left this place just a few minutes after checking in. We arrived very late and the hotel smelled AWFUL. The lobby reeked, but we thought/hoped that it was maybe just that area. We were checked into a room on the 2nd floor basically above the lobby, and it stank also. I went to use the restroom, and walking back into the main part of the room was slammed by that stink again. It almost started to give me a panic attack and there was no way that we could stay there. We packed up and called the night attendant and said that we needed a refund. He was super apologetic and processed the refund -- both of which I appreciated -- but that was one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had, whether in the US or traveling internationally.

This IS NOT a regular Extended Stay hotel. To my surprise and disgust, there are 3 levels of Extended Stay. This hotel is the level that is a room, with a refrigerator, sink, tv, toilet, sink, shower, one towel, one roll toilet paper. NOTHING ELSE IS PROVIDED. NO EXTRA ROLL TOILET PAPER, BATH TOWEL, WASH CLOTH, NO PLASTIC GLASSES, NO COFFEE MACHINE, (NOTHING IN TINY LOBBY ROOM), NO TOASTER, NOT ONE UTENSIL OR DISH, NO PAPER TOWELS, NOTHING. I ATTEMPTED TO TURN THE TV ON. IF YOU WAIT 5-10 MINUTES YOU GET A NOTICE THAT THE TV SYSTEM IS LOADING. MAYBE, AFTER 20-30 MINUTES YOU MIGHT GET S GUIDE, OR A CHANNEL IN THE LINEUP. THE TELEVISION PROGRAMMING THIS HOTEL PROVIDES SUCKS, TERRIBLY. NOT ONE MOVIE CHANNEL. A COUPLE SPANISH, RELIGIOUS, QVC CRAP, TV SHOWS FROM THE 60’s-2010. NOTHING RELEVANT NOR UP TO DATE. THE REFRIGERATOR DID NOT HAVE AN ICE MAKER IN IT’S FREEZER. THE FRIDGE WAS BARELY COLD. I TURNED THE TEMP TO THE COLDEST LEVEL. I THEN WENT TO A SUPERMARKET AND SPENT OVER $200.00 ON PAPER PLATES, GLASSES, CUPS, BASIC FOOD SUPPLIES, SEVERAL FROZEN FOODS AND ICE TRAYS. UPON RETURN TO THE ROOM I LOADED THE REFRIGERATOR, AND NOTICED THE TEMPERATURE HAD NOT GONE DOWN. WENT TO SHOWER TO DISCOVER THREE PLACES IN THE TUB THAT WERE LITERALLY BROKEN, AND WATER WOULD PROBABLY LEAK INTO THEM. I TRIED TO KEEP THEM COVERED WITH THE SHOWER CURTAIN. I USUALLY URNINATE WITH MORE PRESSURE THAN THE SHOWER HEAD WAS PUTTING OUT. BY THAT POINT YOU COULD SMELL DOG ODOR IN THE ROOM. I FINALLY READ A FLYER ON THE COUNTER THAT STATED VERY BASIC KITCHEN SUPPLIES AND UTENSILS WERE AVAILABLE AT THE FRONT COUNTER FOR ( I THINK) $34.00. 1 knife, 1 fork, 1 spoon, 1 plate, 1 cup. AND THERE WAS NO MAID SERVICE, CLEANING OF THE ROOM, CHANGING OF BEDDING, NO TRASH SERVICE PROVIDED. THAT HAPPENED ONLY ONCE EVERY 14 DAYS!!!! I WAS WAITING TO SEE THE COCKROACHES, MICE AND RATS TO BEGIN THEIR INTERVENTION TO MY NEW AND WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE. BUT THERE WAS MORE TO COME. I WENT TO THE REFRIGERATOR TO GRAB A DINNER TO HEAT UP! Oh My God!!! The room did have a 2006 model microwave that actually worked!!! HOWEVER, the refrigerator was HOT INSIDE. IT WAS NOW 9:50pm, and the hotel staff are at their station ONLY FROM 9:00. (or 10:00am) until 10:00pm. The entire staff consists of ONE person. I immediately was told there is NO MAINTENANCE STAFF AND NO MAINTENANCE ON CALL. (I was later told that “corporate” had to supply funds FOR ANY REPAIRS.! Luckily for me that night June was working. After listening to my dilemma, the amount of money I had spent, he was able to go to an unoccupied room, retrieve that refrigerator, and swap it with mine. AND I THANK GOD AND JUNE FOR THAT. I HAD PURCHASED A BROOM AND A MOP TO KEEP MY ROOM CLEAN. I SWEPT AND MOPPED EVERY DAY. THAT CLEANING WAS SERIOUSY NECESSARY AFTER THREE MEN CAME TO MY ROOM AT 8:00PM ONE EVENING AND ANNOUNCED THAT THEY WERE THERE TO REPAIR THE SHOWER ROD. THAT “REPAIR” CONSISTED OF RELOCATING THE SHOWER CURTAIN ROD. THEY DID NOT PICK UP NOR SWEEP NOR CLEAN ONE DAMN THING. THEY WERE SIMPLYING WITH THE BOTTOM FEEDER STATUS IF THIS CRAPPY EXTENDED STAY HOTEL. I WENT TO USE THE LAUNDRY. $4.00 A LOAD. THE HOTEL DESK DOES NOT KEEP QUARTERS IN STOCK FOR GUESTS (SURPRISE!!!). THE MACHINES MAY OR MAY NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS. WHEN YOUR CARD DOES GO THROUGH, AND MONEY HAS BEEN DEDUCTED FROM YOUR ACCOUNT, YOU ARE PRESENTED WITH A MESSAGE THAT IF YOU WANT TO CONTINUE, A CONVENIENCE FEE WILL ALSO BE CHARGED!!! WELL SURPRISE, SURPRISE, SURPRISE!! HOW DEEP CAN THE —-T BECOME IN THE WORST EXTENDED STAY IN AMERICA. I COULD GO ON WITH ANOTHER TWO PAGES OF VERY VALID REASONS NOT TO EVER USE THIS PLACE FOR EVEN A VERY SHORT OVERNIGHT. BUT WAIT, THERE’S ONE GIGANTIC ISSUE THAT ABSOLUTELY UPSETS ME OFF. I WAS CHARGED FOR AN ADDITIONAL ALMOST $800.00 FOR TIME AFTER I HAD CHECKED OUT. I HAD SPOKEN WITH ONE OF THE COUNTER STAFF REPRESENTATIVES AND MENTIONED TO HIM ONCE (FRIDAY)I MIGHT BE LEAVING AND ON SATURDAY I INFORMED HIM I WOULD BE LEAVING THE COMING MONDAY VERLY EARLY AM. KNOWING THERE WOULD BE NO ONE ON STAFF OR PRESENT AT THE COUNTER WHEN I LEFT. I HAD PAID IN ADVANCE AND MY BILL WAS PAID UP TO MY MONDAY DEPARTURE AND BEYOND. AND NOW I’M BEING CHARGED AN ADDITIONAL SUBSTANTIAL SUM OF MONEY. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND NOR HAVE ANYTHING GOOD TO SAY ABOUT EXTENDED STAY AMERICA HOTELS EVER!!! AND I CAN GUARANTEE ESA I’M GOING TO BE WRITING TO EVERY TRAVEL ASSOCIATION, CLUB, CHURCH, TRAVEL WEBSITES I CAN TO HELP OTHERS NEVER TO WASTE THEIR MONEY ON SUCH A TERRIBLE PLACE TO STAY AS IS EXTENDED STAY OF AMERICA, MANCHESTER, CONNECTICUT!!!

Very mediocre and not worthy of a return stay.

Very quiet and clean. Did not like the 10-10 front desk hours

I have been very satisfied with the hotel staff, (Marianna, Tyler, June, and the new staff also whose names I do not know), I have encountered during my stay. All are courteous, professional, and friendly accommodating customer needs quickly and graciously. The hotel and rooms are clean and efficient. The location gives easy access to grocery stores, restaurants, movie theaters, fitness gyms, and much more whether you walk, drive, Uber, Lyft, or otherwise. The staff maintain and enforce hotel policies for the benefit of all. A VERY BIG thank you to the excellent staff of this hotel.

The hotel seemed to openly identified that that there hotel just did not offer the same as other extended locations. Kitchen had notjing to support use, the cabinets and shower were old, windows would not fully close. They posted signs sying they did not offer breakfast at that location but sold kitchen settings. No ironing board either.

Very minimal amenities are provided. No tissue in the room, no bathroom counter space, minimal power outlets. no shampoos or conditioner. Floors are linoleum and not carpet which I really don't like.
