The hotel and grounds were clean and looked nice. The room was comfortable and we had plenty of space. The staff were courteous and professional. We enjoyed the breakfast, the food was good, there was plenty of variety, and the breakfast area was clean and comfortable. There was also access to the waterfront right across the road to watch the sunset. There were restaurants easily within walking distance that were reasonably priced and served very good food.

I did no like paying $10 to park at the hotel! As a matter of fact, had I seen that there was a charge to park when I was booking the room I might have looked elsewhere for accommodations.

If you’re gonna serve food at three, staff should be ready did not get our food till 345 and we were hungry because we cycled from Key Largo to marathon. Donna was very accommodating and gave us some chips to hold us.

When I booked this room I asked for a pet free room as I’ve got allergies potentially causing anaphylactic shock towards all cats and some dogs. I was told I would get a room on the second floor that is and has been pet free. WRONG. I was assigned room 130. I didn’t really need parking as we have family who live permanently in Marathon picking us up and dropping off at the Hampton Inn in Marathon. Note on my bill I was charged $10 for car parking and $25 per night for boat parking. It was taken off when I checked out. Here’s the problem. Based on my allergies (took an antihistamine) every day I’d say my room was not pet free. This was confirmed by the manager Jill Campbell who said at check out that all rooms (every single one) can have pets by law because of service animal laws giving preference and priority to people with service animals over people with animal allergies. Ironically there was another guest who overheard all of this and said on her first night at the hotel she was on the same hall I was on and asked to be moved due to dogs barking and allergies. As for me we had dogs barking on our first day. I dismissed this but then it happened again on day 5 our last day with a dog barking alarm at 5am. In all fairness to myself I complained and asked for some monetary compensation for TWO nights of BAD sleep due to dogs barking. Jill asked why I didn’t say something on day one? My assumption was that this was an isolated barking issue. It wasn’t until I met the stranger at the front desk that I found out that other guests were having issues too. I was offered 10,000 Hilton points as resolution . One nights stay is 80,000 points per night. Knowing this, 10,000 points as resolution is an insult. Also our feet were black when we went to bed. I don’t know if this is from the rug or the floor. I told Maria on day two this information so they could clean better and then I wore my flip flops in the room for the rest of our trip . My advice: Stay if you sleep hard with dogs barking in the wee hours. If you are allergic to cats or dogs this is NOT your hotel. Or if you are a light sleeper this is not your hotel. Between doors slamming and barking dogs you are not going to get a great night’s sleep if you want to sleep past about 5 AM. I ended up calling Hilton’s corporate office for resolution. Thankfully they listened and agreed that there should be at least a few rooms that protect people with pet allergies from having an allergy attack rather than every single room being there for the service pets over the people with allergies. Is there anything wrong with the hotel having x number of rooms for service dogs, cats, goats and chickens and x number of rooms for people with allergies? Surely the service animal people can understand that people with allergies can be hospitalized and even die if they are exposed to service animals ( mostly cats and dogs) dander . And for most of us cat allergies are even worse than dogs and chickens or goats. I’ve only seen one person bring a chicken and a goat on a plane as a service animal but I’ve witnessed many people with cats and dogs. Both times I have been hospitalized it was when I was exposed to cats I’m not looking for sympathy, but I am looking for fairness. Allocate a few rows in each hotel that are guaranteed to be pet free. This is not too much to ask. And if you’re sold out, you just have to tell the service animal people for the safety of those with allergies you reserve three rooms or four rooms for people with allergies.
