Red Roof Inn PLUS Long Island - Garden City

This place looks like a dump. The smell and the run down look makes it more like a motel.

It’s run down. The elevator didn’t work well. The carpets were dirty and the bathrooms were bad too. Our bathroom door didn’t close correctly and it had a hole, see picture.

After driving over 10 hours my husband and I arrived at the hotel on June 5, 2026, my credit card was incorrectly charged the wrong amount. I showed Maria my confirmation email with the correct amount, she called the manager and they refunded me the difference to my card. The elevator itself looked terrible and I attached a picture. The room was not decorated and bare. However, decided since this was going to be a short stay we said would make the best of it. However, the next morning while going to the bathroom I turned on the light and a roach immediately starting running around, picture attached. The water in the tub from the shower started to back up. We decided early that morning we were leaving and decided to check out. The young girl at the hotel did not check us out properly and we were charged the extra night. I tried several times to rectify this, requested a refund and the hotel staff would not assist me and placed me on hold for long periods of time. When I made a complaint to Red Roof Headquarters they took my information and refused to refund me the night stating the hotel told them we stayed the night. Their all edge evidence was the Chinese food we left in the refrigerator from the previous night and towels on the floor. They also said the cleaning staff cleaned the room if they did they would seen no items in the room indicating someone was there. They have cameras at the front desk and could have checked the key transaction log to determine who entered the room, which they did not do and I suggested. I also took a video of the tub backing up, but had difficulty loading it. Saturday I was able to make a reservation with Expedia for the Hampton Inn in the same vicinity and the front desk allowed us to check in early, get some sleep before the wedding reception. I also gave them a copy of my reservation confirmation from Expedia confirming payment of the room on June 6, 2026. It is my hope that no one experiences the same issue and that I receive a refund for Saturday night.

The location

They need to update the elevator and train the staff how to properly clean a room and knock on doors and properly identify themselves before trying to just open the door to an occupied room. Thank God I had the latch on the door both times that it happened during my one night stay.

I like the location and the fact that the room had a microwave.

The room just had a smell as you entered but it did not linger after I sprayed it with some lysol. It was not an over powering smell so I did not notify staff.

Extremely rude while checking in

Extremely rude at check-in no towels were in the room. AC unit did not work properly. I did not like the room accommodation.
