"Worst rooms around"

2.0

TV didn't work at all, the bathtub felt like you were walking on a water bed, and the hotel was a true "dive". You get what you pay for, and I'll never go back there

"Unsanitary"

2.0

There is mold all over the bathrooms, Our company had reserved 4 rooms for a week and not one of them were of sanitary conditions. When we tried to get a refund we got the run-around for 4 hours. I would not recommend them to anyone.

"Gross and unsafe"

2.0

Stay away. I'm not a picky woman by any means. we were on our way to Detroit and decided to get a room. We picked it for the price and figured we would probably have to sacrafice something but we didn't know we were putting ourselves in danger. The four didn't lock in the scuzzy hotel. The bed had stains all over it. The shower was slimy, and the toilet seat was filthy. This is a motel where people legit live and have Christmas decorations up. There were random people standing around outside the hotel. Very gross.

"Maybe Not Even One Star"

2.0

My mother lives in Battle Creek, Michigan, so I visit often. This time back I decided to do a survey of 1-star motels, both because I was interested in a bargain stay (I just needed a bed) and to see if I was missing anything on my previous visits staying in three-star locations. My first night survey, I pulled into America's Best Value Inn off Beckley Road out on the interstate. I navigated into the parking lot which unfortunately was a bit treacherous. There had been a snow storm three days prior, and it looks like an attempt was made to clear some of the parking lot, but the remaining uncleared snow had turned completely to solid ice that was almost unsafe to drive or walk on. Thankfully the sidewalks around the building and in front of the doors were clear of snow. The lobby was welcoming enough, but I was a bit surprised to have to talk to the night manager through a bullet-proof plexiglass wall which surrounded the desk. I understand this is a reality for the safety of the employees so it is what it is. I passed identification and credit cards through the metal bowl under the glass, signed the contract and was given keys. The process was simple and went well. The night manager was friendly and competent. My contract was for one room, one night, one occupant, one bed... $39.95 including tax. There was a sign on the plexiglass which stated the wifi was out, but when I reached the room I was able to connect. My room was easy to find. I was glad I was given a room on the ground level and on the "inside" of the buildings since access would be easier and somewhat protected from weather and traffic noises. I swiped the key and entered the room. There was a somewhat second-hand clothing store smell, but not untolerable. I looked around to find a place to put down my bags-- the only option was the bed or the floor. I took off my coat, but there were no hangers on the clothing bar so my coat when on the floor. There was no chair to sit on; no writing desk; no dresser, just a dual-purpose shelving unit to set the 22" CRT TV on. The electric heater was turned off, but it wasn't cold in the room. So trying to wrap this up quickly, here are the detractors: No lightbulb in the fixture above the TV. The TV was so small that I really had trouble watching while lying on the bed. There was no "spring-bar" to hold the toilet paper roll-- the roll was on the back of the toilet. I already mentioned the missing clothes hangers. There was a refrigerator, but it only had three legs so it wobbled critically and was loud when it ran, clunked on and clonked off. The freezer as choked with ice. I didn't try the micowave-- it had a refrigereator rack piled on top of it. There was a constant whine of vehicles on I-94. The "standard" hotel door inside slide lock was completely shreaded off the door as if sometime in the recent past, the door had to be broken into. There were only a few cars in the parking lot so I kinda assumed I would be given one of the better rooms available, but if this was the best room, I fear there may be deeper troubles with this hotel. On the positive side, the queen bed was comfortable and I awoke fairly rested. There was easily accesable power outlets near the bed-side table for charging my phone. The pillows were just okay or less. My room telephone rang in the middle of the night. I answered, but no one was on the other end-- I went back to bed. I shaved the next morning in the sink which had no drain plug. The shower tub worked fine, but was really hard to adjust the hot and cold nobs to achieve a comfortable temperature. So, let's talk value. A clean room, sink, toilet, bath and safe, dry place to sleep is probably worth $40 per night. Just keep your expectations very low. In that respect, this is America's Best Value.

"Cheap and Small"

4.0

The room was very small, could not eat and watch TV at the same time. The bathroom was plenty large but did not have a proper vanity to hold my toiletries while trying to shave and wash up. I did not feel that the cost savings was worth the reduction of the basic necessities.
