Super 8 by Wyndham Newburgh/West Point Stewart Intl Airport

This place offers shelter for homeless families. While that is a service that we can all commend, that’s not compatible with regular traveler establishments. There were several things that made me question whether we were safe… the hooded men milling about, the fact we had to request a light bulb for the room, the smells, the vacuumed but otherwise dirty and torn carpets… the fact the man at the counter told me as a military family I (a woman) made him feel safe. All of this would have normally been enough for me to leave immediately, but I was exhausted… all I wanted to know was, is it safe? So I called the Newburgh police dispatch line. Told him my daughter and I were driving up from NJ, was the Super 8 safe? The police officer did not let me finish: “Leave” he said. “I cannot provide further details, but thing happen there and you need to leave right away.”

Room wasn't setup for service. I had to connect the lights, TV, dust the table tops, clean the tub. The room had a bad smell from dampness. Towels had a bad smell. Sheets looked stained. Service setups were poor. No coffee setups. Some kind of kids and mischievous people hanging around outside door. Didn't feel safe there. Didn't feel my parked car was safe there. Poor attention to detail for a motel. Need to clean up your act at this location or people won't return.
