Completely relaxed just reading a good book at the fireplace in beautiful, ancient surroundings while being served tea and dinner whenever we wanted. Planning to come back during the warmer spring season.

"Fairy tale of 1001 nights"

8.0

Two owners and eople working at the hotel (especially Hamid and Bader) made us feel special and treated us like welcome family. Hotel has lot of local charm, romance and design and feels like you are in a story of '1001 nights'. Very warm stay!!

The berber style of the accomodations made it feel bit basic sometimes but in the end added to its charm as well.

"Very disappointing."

2.0

The staff was very kind and tried their best to help you/serve you. The place did had a charm and decoration was nice.

Poor value for money. Can’t call this a 5*. Website mentioned “heated pool”, the pool was ice cold. Great for Wim Hof training… We heard other guest wo went in say it was so cold it hurts. Location is not in Agafay desert but 20 min driving which costs 60€ (return). However when we took the transport the hotel wanted to charge us 80€ while communicating it would be 60€. You are closed in this oasis can’t go anywhere. Hotel charges ridiculous prices for activities. Website mentioned “bikes on site”, there are no bikes and they wanted to charge 150€ pp to bike… Regarding food they charge 35€ for lunch and 45€ for diner (excluding drinks) which is way too much for the quantity you get moreover the salads were filled with insects. They didn’t communicate a menu or the cost upfront but afterwards. As you’re located near nothing you have only the option to eat there or pay 60€ for the taxi somewhere in Agafay. We had to wait 1,5h for lunch. The shower is cold. Rooms are very dark. Heating wasn’t working… Pictures online look way nicer. The website and Instagram make you think it’s a nice yoga hotel with activities however everything is very expensive. I can go on…

"Perfect Moroccan escape."

10.0

The building is a beautiful old Moroccan fort. Spectacular inside and out. Great views. Friendly. Secure. Comfortable. Welcoming. The staff could not do enough for us. Travelling, first time to Marrakech and with my son, we arrived late at night. The staff were welcoming even though we were so very late. (1a.m.car trouble) In the morning they actually fixed my hire car for me! Breakfast was excellent and included. Just outside the city, perfectly located away from the chaos of Marrakech centre. No traffic noise. I can't recommend this hotel enough.

"Oh Agafay, we loved you"

10.0

The Berbers are known for their hospitality and it is one reason we have so fallen in love with Morocco, and try to visit the country every year; it’s really our love of the Berbers. So, when news struck of the earthquake, we were heartbroken. We had been due to visit the Asni area and our hotel had been damaged. Weweighed in our minds whether to cancel for fear of celebrating whilst the nation mourned, but on reflection we felt that it was important to spend our money in Morocco, to support the people that had always looked after us so well, so wee needed to find another hotel. And so it was that I chanced upon Kasbah Agafay. Organising the trip for a group of friends, I felt huge responsibility to find somewhere comfortable, with good food, friendly, relaxed and yet spoiling. We arrived hot and tired after a four hour drive (from our previous hotel in the Atlas - Agafay is only 30 mins from the airport) and were led to a charming table in the dappled shade of olive trees by the pool and soon appeared a delicious tagine and bottles of wine and our fraught edginess just melted away. One of my worries with booking so out of season was that the hotel would be empty and my fear was founded but instead of this feeling soulless and sad, it was quite the opposite, we had this beautiful characterful kasbah all to ourselves with our charming hosts Abel and Kenza to engage with and numerous charming staff to ply us with wine, teach us to cook tagines, book taxis to Marrakech, etc. With broken French we chatted to the staff (although many spoke very good English), only to hear all about their lives, the football club owning waiter with strong but mild tempered political views being a highlight. You really felt not just welcomed by the staff but like they were the most lovely people in the world. And none of this was unwanted or unwelcome. I’m sure if we hadn’t wanted to engage they wouldn’t have, so it wasn’t intrusive. The hotel is somewhat like an Escher painting (being empty we took delight in exploring) made up of separate Riads with rooms off a central courtyard, each Riad interlinking with the others. Every room is decorated uniquely and there isn’t a bad one. They are all colourful and exotically sultry, they are all well equipped and characterful. And the main reception rooms have many different areas to sit, read fascinating books, admire the antique emporium feel of the place, soak up the gentle peacefulness of the Berber culture. Unlike western hotels, we never once looked at a menu. The Agafay staff had asked out dietary requirements before we arrived and so food just arrived that never failed to delight. Whether it was breakfast lunch or supper, it was always traditional, delicious, unexpected and left us feeling healthy and well yet sumptuously cared for. As a foodie and a nutritional therapist, I don’t think I’d have been keen on this arrangement and yet the food they gave us was so utterly delicious, hearty enough for those with big appetites, yet healthy enough for those that care. In short, we waved goodbye to the Agafay staff with heavy hearts and yet, even now, a month later, feel we have made new friends, that we will undoubtedly see again, and that a little bit of the Agafay soul has been stitched into our hearts to draw us back again and again. The dream would be to fill the kasbah with all our friends for a true Moroccan house party. Let’s get saving…
