The Westin Detroit Metropolitan Airport

Nicest airport hotel I’ve ever experienced. The comfort of Westin beds, robes, towels and amenities. A lovely lobby restaurant. And connected to the airport with its own TSA line.

Staff is always friendly. We had the one bedroom suites so our 5 yr old child could have a pull out bed to rest in. Which was barely usable. It was the most terrible mattress we have ever used. Even my 5 year old had a hard time sleeping on this garbage. Check your beds, springs poking out everywhere is not a quality bed for anyone. The one we had last year was much better this one was terrible.

Clean, modern, nice restaurant.

There is just something about travelling during the festive season — and in America, they go all in! The airport was spotless, truly, and offered so many little festive touches that helped pass the time. There was even a letter‑writing station for Santa, which was such a sweet surprise. The fountain area was lovely, and the convenience tram between terminals made getting around incredibly easy. It was only a brief visit for us, but I have to say the airport felt well‑appointed and unusually friendly. A really pleasant atmosphere, especially for holiday travel.

Stayed here the night before our trip to CA thinking it would make flight check-in easier. Nope; totally wrong. You cannot take bags that need to be checked through their dedicated security line (only carry-ons), and didn't even open until 7 AM (so if you have a really early morning flight it doesn't help). We had a nice "meal" of some apps and wine at the Lounge when we arrived (around 4-5 PM). By 8:00 PM, the lounge was so packed you couldn't even get into it. My daughter ordered a glass of wine through room service and after 90 minutes cancelled it since it never arrived. Rather disappointing for the amount of money they charge to stay there.

What has happened to The Westin? We paid US$500 with taxes and fees for a single night. The experience felt more like Holiday Inn Express or Fairfield. My husband has Ambassador and Lifetime Titanium elite statuses with Marriott Bonvoy. We expected a modest upgrade. Instead, we were given a room on a lower floor facing the interior atrium. There were many better room types available, including every category of suites, but we weren't offered any upgrade, not even a higher floor room. The atrium-facing rooms have windows that aren't tinted, which made the room feel exposed and lacking in privacy. The room itself showed a lot of wear. Furniture and doors were scratched and scuffed. In the bathroom, there was visible black mold in the shower. The lack of basic amenities stood out. There was not even a complimentary bottle of water. Instead, guests are expected to either use a glass carafe and fill it from the tap or a hallway station, or purchase two souvenir water jugs for US$29.90. Charging that amount for what is essentially tap water is outrageous. This stay did not reflect the quality we previously associated with Westin. Next time we will be staying somewhere else.
