"Love hotel playa we stayed 12 days so in depth review"

10.0

Food: I grew up going to this resort! I brought my kids back as I wanted to share the memories I had. It was nice they offer an all inclusive option (all the chunky monkeys) I really enjoyed the restaurant food as it was good and great beer selections (Pacifico, corona, tecate) Georgini’s and Roberto’s were my favorite and I loved the sunset cocktail bar they set up on Tuesdays and Saturdays by the north tower. I also loved the coffee bar for the all inclusive guests. I went in the am and pm most nights! Sports bar was nice but didn’t spend a lot of time there. Entertainment: I liked the 2 shows we attended! The kids one was super fun. I wish there were more nightly shows. We stayed at the riu the last 2 years and appreciated the nightly kids and performance shows. The days we went to the pool were fabulous with the entertainment staff! They had darts 🎯, foam parties, balloon games, water polo, etc. to keep adults and kids happy all day. Enrique and his team were always great and helpful! Great variety of music both American and Mexican infused to keep everyone engaged. valleria and Rueben were awesome at the kids club. We went a couple times and the kids begged to go back. They did cupcake decorating, bingo, face painting, puzzles, etc. Beach: I love the beach but the only downfall is the bands that transcend around 1 everyday. There are multiple and that it’s too loud. I understand it is a public beach and I understand the hotel can’t do anything about that. I just wanted to make note of it as this will make us consider another location. I enjoyed they have servers on the beach for drinks as well! The trinket sellers wondered thru the chairs on the beach and some were pushy and didn’t appreciate that as much. One day security enforced them away, but other than that no one else. Pools: I loved the 2 warm pools (main and 1 in back by pirate ship) the new pool lagoon would have been great if it was warmer, but was too cold) loved to walk thru the caves and wonder in the area over there. Very pretty. From what I remember when I was a child/ younger adult there were moreAmericans and Canadians. This year there were more Mexicans and maybe catered to this? Everyone spoke pretty good English and staff in general super attentive and helpful. Was awesome to see some familiar faces (the guy arturo who makes the eggs, and the waiter who has been here 39 years and Henry the hat man. It was truly a walk down memory lane.

Wonderful holiday at this resort, staff espically engaging. Loved having Job as our waiter every morning and hooking up with Edgar for afternoon drinks at the beach bar, best hamburgers served pool side. The entertainment staff 5 stars...

Our stay at the Playa was nice, it has beautiful pools and the buffet breakfast included with our reservation was great! Had a wonderful time and can’t wait to go back. Our only complaint was that we weren’t happy with the room that we had and it took a few days to get a new one.

"Year after year still love it."

8.0

Spent another last two weeks end of January here. This is visit number 9/10 here. Had a room wasn’t too happy with first night, was a little difficult to get another but as always the front desk staff came through. Ended up in 408, great view. It’s wonderful to see the same staff we’ve come to know and repeat guests that we have gotten to know year after year. Some who have been coming for over 30 years. Guests are treated extremely well. The hotel is old. No question. And yes could use a little updating. They keep the place spotless. Always cleaning. The location in the golden zone makes it safe and fun to eat out, watch live music, shop. It’s not upscale. No fridges in the room. The buffet is ok The a la cartes are very good. The sports bar is modern and fun. Most pools are cold. Main pool heated. The beach is very nice. The sea is not the Caribbean. Banda can be annoying and sometimes entertaining. Spanish is the main language. Learn a bit before you go. Many Mexicans travel here for vacation. More Mexicans than Canadians and Americans. Which makes it great. The staff as I’ve mentioned over and over make this such a terrific place to be.

Absolutely loved this resort - close to everything! The breakfast buffet was fabulous with lots of choices! The rooms are clean and lots of hot water for showers! Staff is attentive and professional. Right on the beach with lots of chairs. I wish the pool opened a little earlier and getting ice can be a bit of hassle - otherwise - loved it here! We will be back. Highly recommend.

This hotel is just okay. There is a lot of potential, but it’s due for a heavy renovation. There are quite a few pools, but only a few had lounge chairs around them and were quite loud (kid pool, loud DJ music, waterfalls). The beach is nice, but bands play very loud music in front of the chairs all day. This is definitely not the place for a quiet, relaxing trip. The location is good, as you can walk to restaurants, but it’s very loud at night. Rooms are poorly insulated for sound, so you can hear the music at the bars nearby and from people down the hall. The staff were kind, but not very helpful. They wouldn’t make a call for a spa appointment for me and don’t have basic essentials like toothpaste. The property is generally clean. The beds only have a very light blanket on them and I had to use the spare blanket in the closet, that looked 30 years old and smelled awful. I asked for a new one and it wasn’t much better. A few highlights: the breakfast is really good, and there is a shower available in the main space if your flight leaves after you check out (though you aren’t allowed to use a towel). Not the worst place I’ve been to, but I wouldn’t return unless I was looking for a party type vacation.

The staff is very friendly and top notch. The beach is very clean and one of the best in Mazatlan. The dining at the hotel is limited, however, there are plenty of good restaurants in walking distance. Very clean. Property can use some TLC and limit bands playing on the beach.
