"Grossly Overpriced"

4.0

I have been curious about this hotel for quite some time but the price has always been high and it did not seem "wow" so I always picked something else instead. For this stay I decided to finally try to compare with other hotels where I have stayed in Santiago before. My main takeaway is that my previous opinion was well founded: RC is quite underwhelming for the price paid and I would never pick it over W nearby especially since RC is more expensive more than half the time. At check-in we received a junior suite upgrade as Bonvoy Ambassador Elite which is nice, but while I was happy with the upgrade it's mostly a naming convention thing: it's a bigger room but a bit boring, no local touch. The hardware is somewhat aging, not only in the room but some common areas of the hotel for example the elevator doors are banged up. In the suite, only one sink in the bathroom is not luxury, and the faucet was too close to the sink so it's simply bad design and have to wash hands by spilling water on the counter. There was no hand shower, only the rain head - another small but noticeable miss. I would be more ok with this hotel if it was a Renaissance for example, it should not be a Ritz. Breakfast was not a sore point of the hotel - the buffet was actually quite nice with noodle soup and rice which my wife was happy about. Many kinds of salmon, berries, etc. But I still cannot say it's was a good point of the stay because the noodle soup was lukewarm at best, sometimes even cold. The pot was laying on a heating station but it must not be strong enough. One morning the pot was empty near the end of breakfast and I asked for another one. They brought a new one from the kitchen so I thought it would be warm, but no, it was cool. That heating station is supposed to keep the soup warm, not to heat up a cold soup to make it hotter! They have an a la carte menu but the breakfast being included in our rate it was buffet only, so another lost opportunity to wow. When we left the hotel I was told no charge because our room service expense was covered by the 100 USD Food & Beverage credit under the rate type I booked, and I never received any invoice by e-mail. Then after we left the hotel I saw my credit card was charged. Apparently the hotel charged me tips which are not covered by the credit according to them. Sneaky of them to not mention the charge at check-out and to not send me an e-mail with invoice to inform me they took money on my card. All in all I see no reason for returning to this hotel which is grossly overpriced and provides an inferior product.

"Seen better days"

6.0

Tries hard but the age of the place (20 years+) does show itself. Rooms are not quite the usual RC standard. Food is very so so. Breakfast is fine but some of the fruit was not fresh or was in fact mouldy. Bar is more like a Marriott bar than a Ritz Carlton. Think sports bar with tv showing American sports. That said the bar staff were wonderful. Great cocktails.

"Great hotel in a perfect location"

10.0

We had a great stay at the Ritz in Santiago over the holiday and new year. The location is perfect - the surrounding area is great to walk or bike, with many nearby restaurants. Its also very easy to get to other areas of Santiago by the nearby metro or using Uber. The room was spacious and very clean. The staff was terrific. Enrique at the front desk was extremely helpful and had a great attitude. Sebastian was similarly very helpful and a true pleasure - and both had amazing memories! Everyone we met with was great. We would definitely recommend and hope to return soon

"Pockets of Excellence, but Overall Disappointing"

6.0

Our stay at the Ritz-Carlton Santiago was a decidedly mixed experience—one that included some genuine strengths but also several notable shortcomings that are difficult to overlook, particularly given the brand and price point. On a positive note, the room itself was attractive and initially conveyed a sense of luxury. The décor was pleasing, and the space felt comfortable overall. The air-conditioning was adequate for the conditions during our stay, with daytime temperatures ranging from the mid-70s to low-80s Fahrenheit (approximately 24–28°C). That said, the system clearly struggled to cool the room to a truly comfortable sleeping temperature. Despite setting the thermostat to its coldest possible setting (16°C / 61°F), the room never dropped below roughly 22°C / 72°F. Had the weather been any warmer, sleeping comfortably would have been an issue. For a suite, the bathroom was particularly disappointing. The shower was quite small, had poor water pressure, and lacked a hand-held wand—surprising omissions at this level. The furniture also felt oddly designed: the sofa was more like a narrow day lounge and could comfortably seat only one person. Comfort issues extended to the bedding as well. The pillows were so worn and unsupportive that we had to request four additional pillows—on top of the four already provided—just to make the bed usable for two people. Beyond the room, the hotel itself feels dated. Several common areas showed visible wear, giving the impression that updates and refurbishments are overdue. This detracts from the overall experience and does not align well with expectations for a Ritz-Carlton property. One clear highlight was the lounge access, which we would strongly recommend. The lounge was comfortable and welcoming, offered a very pleasant breakfast, and was staffed by courteous, attentive, and genuinely helpful personnel. This was one of the most consistently positive aspects of the stay. The location is acceptable but not ideal for visitors focused on tourism. While Las Condes is a solid business-oriented neighborhood, the specific area where the Ritz-Carlton is situated is not particularly walkable to restaurants or attractions. Travelers may be better served staying on the other side of Las Condes—near properties like the Mandarin Oriental—where access to better dining options on foot is considerably easier. Finally, a word of caution about the hotel restaurant: avoid it if at all possible. While the food itself is good, the service is exceptionally slow and poorly managed. Orders were incomplete, delays were excessive, and the overall experience was frustrating enough to overshadow the quality of the cuisine. In sum, the Ritz-Carlton Santiago delivers pockets of luxury but falls short in consistency, comfort, and service. With meaningful updates and operational improvements, it could be much stronger—but in its current state, it does not fully live up to the expectations associated with the Ritz-Carlton name.
