Residence Inn by Marriott Fort Smith

After a day-long road trip, I was booked two nights here. When I checked in, I was placed on the first floor, which gave me pause as a young woman travelling alone. When I arrived, a few random people were milling around the parking lot looking into cars, which made me a bit nervous. When I arrived to my room, there were multiple large stains on the carpet. I went to the lobby area to see if another room was available, but waited around 20 minutes without seeing any staff to talk to so I returned to my room. When I got into the room and past the carpet stains, I noticed that my bed did not appear to have clean sheets. They were wrinkled and unkempt. Again, I swung by the front desk and no one was around. I returned to my room and went to be sure the windows were shut/locked and to close the curtains. The curtains are detached in part, so I could not fully shut them. (Not a huge deal since it's winter and dark a lot of the time, but since I was on the first floor along a public walkway, I was more concerned with privacy than anything. The toilet had an extended flush which makes me nervous about water/plumbing issues, but nothing so far other than the toilet going for the length of about 5-6 "normal" flushes when I use it. On the next morning, I was impressed with the breakfast. Fresh fruit, lots of options, very kind staff. Likely the highlight. Today when I went to the fitness center, I was a bit surprised that it was lined with carpet. One of the two treadmills was fully broken without any signage. The other was clearly in need of service -- it would not increase speed past 6mph and took a long time to "come up to speed." Incline was the same -- it struggled to move the belt and took about a minute to change incline 2%. There were no workout mats for floor exercises, nor hardly any space in the fitness center to do much of anything on the floor. I decided to lay a towel down to stretch and do some floor workouts, during which I noticed what may be black mold (or some other kind of mold) on the ceiling. I am able to work remotely but had to use my hotspot because the internet (even the "upgraded option") was too slow and laggy to run basic applications. I have not been able to do the simple tasks on their wifi, let alone stream a podcast or TV show. I have been a long time Marriott customer and have had "status" with them for years. I usually look for Marriotts in whatever city I'm in because of the quality of their facilities -- nice, clean rooms that have been well-maintained. I have never felt as uncomfortable in a hotel as I did here.

We booked a bedroom but got a suite. Booking a bedroom on Booking.com does not ensure it will actually be a bedroom. They are the same price, just don’t bet on getting the separate bedroom if the Inn is full.

All was good except for the air vent that blows right on the bed 24/7. Breakfast was the best we’ve had at a hotel!

We had a great stay! The 2 bedroom was awesome. Definitely look at doing another trip utilizing the 2 bedroom option!

It was very clean, quiet and peaceful. Loved it.

Waited 15 minutes in the lobby to check in - no desk clerk. First room, smelled horribly, two tvs did not work, mold on ceiling and vent. Very dated and worn out. Second room had working tvs but was worn out and dirty. Would NEVER stay here again. I don’t understand how this could be a Marriott. I paid $239 for a room that was worth maybe $75 at best

Clean, pet friendly and the staff was great.

To be honest, I was very disappointed with my stay at this property. When I  checked into my room, the first thing I found was damp carpet. It got worse when I found a dirty wash cloth hanging on the curtain rod in the bathroom. The bathroom light had gross stains and there were a few bugs in the tub that would come and go regularly. The staff was very nice but seemed a bit forgetful. I went to the front desk and asked for more coffee packs. They couldn't find any but said they would bring some right up - I never did get the extra coffee. My sister had left a basket of fruit at the front desk that was to be given to me at check in. I wasn't aware that she had done that but when she asked me later if I had received it, I hadn't. When I arrived back at the hotel that evening, I asked about it and the front desk couldn't find it so I never got that either. The fireplace in the room didn't work nor did the phone. I was unable to access the internet for a bit but they did fix that - apparently my reservation was put in under my first name instead of my last name. All in all, there were a lot of issues.
