Magnuson Hotel Fowlerville

I had made a reservation for 2 nights but 2 days before I arrived I changed it to one night stay. When I walked into the office for check in the smell of spice was overwhelming. I understand the owner suite is connected but it was really intense. At first he couldn't find my reservation even though I offered the confirmation number. He found it and checked me in and I again confirmed it was for one night. I had a room with one king bed. The room did not smell like the office which I appreciated. There is some splotchy wallpaper and I could still see marks of something on the wall. I used the shower but the handle was broken and it made operating the control a bit difficult. When I tried to find a plug to plug in my phone charger, I could find only one plug on one outlet on one side of the bed to use. The plugs elsewhere in the room (near the desk and by the door) wouldn't support the weight of the charger and kept falling out of the wall. I mentioned this when I checked out and was told they use those plugs when they clean and they had no problem. She didn't understand what I was trying to say. When I pulled back the sheet and blanket it looked like there was another sheet so I reached to pull that down and I realized they had used a flat sheet on the mattress instead of a fitted sheet. The mattress pad looked like a piece of brown cardboard and the bed was hard as a rock and the pillows were soft and mushy. It did not lend itself to a good night's sleep. When I checked my credit card statement I was initially charged for both nights. They did process a refund but when I called them they said because I made the reservation online it automatically processed a payment for both nights and that was done automatically. I've never experienced that in my travels before. I normally stay at another hotel when I'm in the area (3-4 times a year) but had to stay here because it was graduation weekend. If that were to happen again, I'd definitely change my travel plans or stay home rather than stay here.

I liked everything about the property! Very kind staff and they did everything they could to get the DirecTV to work! Even offered to switch us rooms!

The location was great

There are bugs. The lady at the front desk told me that people come and go and bring the bugs... They do not clean after people stay

Staff was helpful, was a quiet place !
