The Mansion on Royal

Loved the location and the front porch. Spent every morning and most evenings hanging out there with some wine.

Just wish we had another chair or shelf or something/somewhere to put luggage and/ or clothes other than the floor.

Was a large, clean room that had a big comfy bed, cute aesthetics. Kitchen and living room also very pretty and efficent. Liked how it was a short walk to frenchmen st, and felt like a safe walk.

the wifi was somewhat unstable when I was there, had some connectivity issues during stay.

I've stayed here many times. It's quaint, and the front porch rockers are the best. However, this time, we were in the back building, and the smell was nauseating. We usually don't spend much time in the room but on the second morning asked to move because it was giving us headaches. You could taste it, it smelled so bad. The offered us the room just above us that obviously smelled the exact same. We would've moved/ canceled second night if we could've found anything else. We also asked for a roll out twin and never even recieved as much as a response.

Do not book rooms in back building. There is a mold/ wet/ urine smell that is absolutely atrocious. Room 10 and the room above need major renovation. I love old buildings and am not picky... but it's so so so bad.

Decorations are well done for the time period. Room 4 was spacious and the bed was comfortable. Air conditioning and hot water worked well. There was a coffee maker, refrigerator and hair dryer in the room- none of which are on the website so it was a welcome relief. There is a full kitchen for guests' use.

I chose room 4 because it advertised a balcony which we enjoy when we travel. However, the window/door did not open and was shuttered from the outside. To access "our" balcony we had to go out into the hall, go through the library, and out a locked door to a "shared" outdoor space with a swing. This is not as advertised-Please update your website! The bed pillows were not comfortable. This room has a claw-footed bathtub with shower- not recommended for anyone with mobility issues as the sides are very high.

Though a little worn from time and humidity, The Mansion on Royal represents exactly what you expect to find in New Orleans. Eclectic with a bit of overdone French deco (I mean that in the best way! haha)

Because of age and the climate, the wallpaper was peeling, and nature occasionally made its way inside (a moth gave me a jump scare, haha), but it was not too much to detract from the stay. The water pressure was a little weak.
