"Disappointing stay."

Nice welcome by reception staff. Good towels and toiletries. Breakfast very good and good continental choice. Coffee machine a bit hit and miss and coffee cups too small for what is dispensed, meaning the cofffe overflows the cup. Need small mugs.

Chicken ceasar salad from the lunch menu, had no anchovies( although stated on menu) and hardly any parmesan. Uncomfortable bed. Sank in middle. Cracked sink in bathroom. Toilet dirty around cistern. Difficult to open sash window. Bar poorly stocked and staff unaware of how to serve requested liquer. Both had same drink but served in different style glasses.

from the e-mail sent after my stay: I arrived at your hotel at about 5pm on the 5th following a very long, cold, wet journey from Wales. I was looking forward to a relaxing evening enjoying your spa and a meal in your restaurant before heading down to Southampton for work on the Saturday. On my arrival I was told by reception that if I wanted a meal I would have to eat before 6:30pm or after 8pm as you had a function and the kitchen would be busy. Is this my problem I thought to myself. I decided I would use the spa and eat after 8pm. I was then told the sauna and jacuzzi were not operating. I went for a swim anyway and went to the bar at about 7:30pm. I ordered a meal and a glass of wine at 7:50pm and went into your cavenous restaurant at 8pm. I was the only person in the restaurant, later to be joined by two other unfortunate guests who were to also have an awful experience as we discussed the following morning at checkout. I had to ask three times for my glass of wine which I finally got at about 8:30pm. I was told at about 8:20pm that the meal should be about 20 minutes. At 9pm I gave up the hopeless task of trying to eat in your restaurant, paid for my drink and left for my room. Where I ate two packs of your complimentary biscuits for my supper. Thank you very much! What staggered me was the lack of care to people actually staying at your hotel, this indicates a deeply unsatisfactory culture in your business. If you have guests, that is what they are guests and should be treated accordingly, not made to take second place to a function which we had no idea was taking place when we booked our rooms. Shame on you.

"Good place but has potential to be better."

Great location. Clean rooms. Overall it was a lovely stay.

It’s currently being refurbished and the areas not yet completed are a bit tired or dated. The spa facilities were limited with the hot tub, sauna and steam room out of order. No body wash in the dispensers in the showers and the gym is very limited with 2 recumbent bikes, 2 treadmills and some dumbbells being the only equipment.

"When you pay for a night at a hotel, but get no sleep!!"

The room was spacious, clean and comfortable.

It's December and clearly this is a hotel that hosts events, that is to be expected. There was an event on in the hotel on both evenings we stayed. The first night this was not a problem at all. On Saturday evening, however, there was an issue. We completely understand loud music at an event up until midnight - that would not be a problem at all. However, when you're still being kept awake at 1.30am it is a major issue. I think that as a point of principle, the hotel should flag up when a booking is made that there is an event that will likely cause noise to overnight guests. If we'd been aware of these events we would definitely have booked different accommodation. An expensive night's accommodation for nothing like enough sleep when we had a long drive the next day. Very disappointing - would not use again.

Tired looking. Set breakfast with no options. Spa, sauna and pool not open. Their availability was something that significantly influenced our choice of booking
