Metropole Hotel and Spa

Comfortable bedroom and good bistro. The latter was in strong demand, so booking is essential.

Hotel is beginning to show its age and parts of it look "dated". On arrival asked if it was possible to have afternoon tea but was told it had to be pre-booked which was a surprise for a hotel of this size. Was offered tea and biscuits in the bar instead.

Convinient for our trip, at the heart of a town we have many memories of. The staff were very friendly and informed. It was great having the ev chargers in the carpark.

Our room was exceedingly hot and unbesrable due to the hot weather and no windows open. In fact we could only open one window and only to a fraction. Seem to have gone overboard on the safety of window opening restrictions to such an extent you end up with hyperthermia instead! Obviously there was no air conditioning.

Dirty carpet in bedroom. Very strange wallpaper. Family room sited at front of building beside the main road. Room therefore too bright from street lights and too noisy from passing cars and people. Family room only accessible by two sets of steps/stairs. Furnishings in dining room dirty and worn out.

Pleasant and comfortable hotel. Great breakfast. Would stay again, but ask for a specific room. Friendly and helpful staff. Shout out to breakfast maitre d. She was lovely.

Some rooms could do with an upgrade. The room was in front of the hotel, and there was noisy road traffic with the window open. So hot in room with no air con and no fan so had to have window open. Cracked window, not sightly. Pricey for what you get. Stayed a couple of days later, the room was much better.

We had a superior room which was nice & spacious. Receptionist was friendly & happy to help. Lots of parking & use of a spa was great even if it’s a little dated & jacuzzi wasn’t working. Catered for gluten free at breakfast & lovely cocktails from the bar.

Little bit dated but has character!
