"quiet and comfortable"

8.0

pleasant stay , comfortable room and very quiet. Checkin starightforward enough , but once I had umpacked , I was then told I had been put in the wrong room and was asked If I would mind moving to another room. Straightforward enough , so not a big issue . Room was clean, bathroom with bath appreciated. Nice village Castle Donington, have been in the area many times but never actually been in the village. Several good pubs and a couple of takeaways .Will stay here at Donington manor again when down that way again. Thanks

"Ticked all the boxes for download 😊"

8.0

Nice location, staff were friendly. Hotel is tired and the stairs could do with re gripping as a slight hazard (lots of old winding stairs to get to your room) bathroom light didn’t work, reported but not replaced. Bed was ok, pillows a little flat. However, I could be over critical here as it was grand for us for our stay. Didn’t eat, so cannot comment on food, however the chef was out the front doing a bbq style cook out which looked great. Very close if you have download tickets and there was a free shuttle bus to donnington park right outside the hotel.

"A Roast to Forget: Starring Manuel, Mystery Beer & the Haunted Weetabix"

2.0

If you’ve ever dreamed of enjoying a relaxing Sunday roast while starring in your own episode of Fawlty Towers, then Donnington Manor Hotel is the accidental comedy venue for you. We arrived for our roast at 2:30pm and were greeted not by a host, but by the chef himself — presumably because the waiting staff had entered a witness protection program. He sat us down politely, and that’s when the DIY experience truly began. No cutlery on the table? No problem — just grab your own. Self-service Sunday roast, who knew it was a thing? Meanwhile, half the breakfast buffet was still out, which is exactly what you want mid-afternoon. There was even a lone packet of Weetabix on display, looking like it had survived a small war and was waiting to be rehomed. Honestly, I considered taking it — not to eat, just to get it out of its misery. Our waiter — a living tribute to Manuel from Fawlty Towers with the attention span of a particularly distracted goldfish — forgot our drinks, brought us dessert menus, then snatched them away before we could order, only to bring them back later like that was the weird part. When he did finally take our drink order, he looked like we’d just asked him to list every cocktail in the known universe. After some deep thinking, he bravely suggested a San Miguel. I agreed. Bold choice. What arrived? A Cruzcampo. Not sure if it was a test or a prank, but either way I drank it — mostly out of confusion. The pièce de résistance? The waiter dropped four plates and several glasses right next to us. CRASH. Absolutely everywhere. The noise, the chaos — it felt like someone had fired the starting pistol at a crockery Olympics. Honestly, at that point we were just waiting for Ant & Dec to leap out from behind the buffet and shout “Surprise!” He also strongly encouraged us to order the crème brûlée, telling us, “The chef needs to get rid of it today.” Hard sell, but nothing gets the appetite going quite like “this needs binning if you don’t eat it.” In short, it was a shambolic masterpiece. Wouldn’t recommend — unless your idea of fine dining includes missing waiters, random beer swaps, haunted Weetabix, and a strong chance of flying crockery.

"Cream teas and dinners OK apparently, but DO NOT STAY HERE."

2.0

Wow. Where do I start? Judging from the reviews, if you want a cream tea or a dinner, this place is quite good. If you want somewhere to stay, avoid this place like the plague. We booked this room quite late as we were working in the area and needed somewhere to crash for the night. Upon arrival, my colleagues, who were sharing a twin room were given their key, while the guy on the reception searched for my key. Eventually he found a key and gave it to me. I found my room and tried the key, which didn't even fit in the barrel. But as I tried to push the key in, the door pushed open. As I entered the room, the smell of damp was immediately apparent. As it was quite late, I decided I had no choice but to stay. There was an extension lead running from a socket in the room that went out through the window, which meant I could not close the window all night. There was an en suite so I decided to use that before I went to the bar. I opened the door and went to walk in and walked straight into a cobweb. Down in the bar, one of my colleagues had bought a drink and had taken a photo, which he showed me, of the drip tray under the berry cider. This tray had white mould spots in the liquid. We finished our drinks and retired.
