"Basic but good value for money..."

8.0

Had visitors over from Asia , and I put them up at this place. Nothing fancy but clean, comfortable and friendly. Recommended for budget travellers and those visiting on a short trip.Conveniently located close to the Montgomery metro station thus enabling a quick trip to the city centre.

"A warning to the unwary"

2.0

This is a potentially reasonable hotel but stay was ruined by a policy of turning the heating on in the bathroom early in the morning (apparently because there would have been no hot water for the shower otherwise). Given that the daytime temperatures at the time were mid 20s C, and the room was small, this was especially crass, rendering the room uninhabitable and obliging me, when unable to elicit assurance that this situation would not be repeated, to check out a day early despite no refund being available.

"Just what I needed "

8.0

I am usually very fussy when it comes to hotels but I found this an enjoyable experience. The cleanliness of the bedroom and the bathroom was good (this is something I find hard with when staying in other places, however, I felt very comfortable). Although our bedroom was situated facing the busy street I was usually so tired the traffic did not bother me. I did notice how it could be annoying to some but for me it was fine. This was also nice as we were given a mini balcony which had a pleasant view of the street which I liked to spend time watching from especially at night. The room was very hot and I did not need the heating so leaving the large balcony doors open was great for me. The TV did not work at the time as they were getting a new tv system in but this was not a problem to me as the room was mainly used for sleeping and not for passing time. The communal breakfast table would have been my absolute living nightmare. However, I found this to be an extremely pleasant experience too. I am in no way a morning person and hate communicating in the morning but I thought it was great. We did have extended family staying there too so this was great to get to know them and break the ice a bit. Additionally, when they had left it also allowed us to meet people from all over the place. One morning I would be sat next to someone from Germany, the next France. I found this quite enjoyable and let me practice my language skills. The array of food was also good too. There are all different kinds of breads, spreads, juices, hams and cheeses. I thought that this was good. I would say the fact that there is not a lift present may be disadvantageous to some but I was fine trekking to and from the second floor. There is nice seating areas both out the front and back as well as maps at the front desk which allow you to explore the city.

"Low cost for low value."

2.0

Two stars are definitely too much. It stays at the level of a hostel, but not a good one. Old and badly maintened building. No elevators. Corridors and stairs' walls scratched and dirty. I had a single room as big as a storage closet, and very badly furnished. Windows not acoustically isolated, so I couldn't sleep because of trafic noise. No ventilators. Let alone air conditioning. At breakfast, you sit around a single big table with the others. And I stop here. In brief, consider going there only if you don't have any different choice.

"Five reasons to say no no no"

2.0

Ok so you jump to the capital of Brussels's for a vacation and all should be fine however on this occasion the location was the wrong choice. The place is not the same as depicted in the images and that all the carpets were thread bear, an obvious danger, the decor is not the same as highlighted in the images as this is now very dated from the images almost everywhere the paint is chipped, Not too good. We accepted the location but was glad to move out when it was time. The breakfast was more like lets all scramble to get the food quite chaotic in its self, The hotel other down point was that it was dark and dreary, Hopefully the management can get back on track, There is no parking facility and will cost 18 Euros a day to park around here.

"Convenience traded for comfort"

2.0

The hotel was very reasonable but had no lift and with badly arthritic knees it was such a struggle to climb the very steep 3 floors that I abandoned thoughts of breakfast. The room was very hot and I was badly bitten in the night by insects, midges I assume. It was also unbearably noisy from heavy traffic apart form between 3 and 5 am. Finally there was a fould smell of damp/drains in the bathroom. I won't be returning.

"Good location and very friendly staff"

8.0

Some people complain about this hotel. Sure it has no elevator. Stairs are steep and narrow. Carpets are well used. OK, pretty worn in places. Its not the Four Seasons. But for the price what you get is excellent. Spotless room. Wifi. Decent breakfast - sadly no fruit but it is easy enough to buy some at many local stores. Good shower. And the communal table for breakfast? Why not. You might meet some interesting people. But most of all the staff are so friendly and welcoming to their small hotel.

"Convenient for European Commission"

8.0

The Monty Small Design Hotel is, like a number of other independent hotels in Brussels, distinctly quirky. Starting with the bright red cow in the front garden, the "design" theme is aggressively red and grey. Checking-ion was easy - there's no front desk as such, but the proprietor sits at a workstation between the lounge and breakfast areas on the ground floor. Steepish stairs took me up to my top floor room on the side (I had requested a quiet room, and not would be wholly quiet, but traffic on the main road - Blvd Whitlock - is not too bad, as it mainly runs through an underpass. The room was small, with a single bed, and clean, with transparent plastic furniture - OK, but not ideal to sit on. The bathroom was however fine. Breakfast is eaten at a communal table (not as bad as it sounds!) with rolls, cold meats and cheese, pain au chocolat, etc. There's a good range of preserves, and a couple of cereals available. Access is straightforward from the premetro, which stops very close by (line 7 to Georges-Henri), but this isn't a very helpful line. It's better to take the metro line 1 to Montgomery and it's about 10 minutes walk from there, or to change at Montgomery onto the premetro. Take care which exit you use to leave Montgomery station, as it's not very well signed to Blvd Whitlock. It's a pleasant 15 minutes' walk to the main buildings of the European Commission, cutting across the Jubelpark (and under the ceremonial arch) so is nice and convenient for meetings there. the local area feels quite safe - there are late night cafes and a few shops on the Ave Georges Henri immediately across the other side of the main road. Internet access worked OK - watch out for the deliberate typo in the password! the television was an old CRT one in a cube, but I didn't actually test it out...

"Small room"

6.0

I booked this hotel for its location, and was literally there just for sleeping. In that sense the room, although small was nice. I stayed on the 3rd floor, and as others have mentioned there is no elevator. As I had no luggage, this was no problem for me. The layout of the room was nice, and it was very quiet. Even on an October night I did not need the heating on, so I recommend asking for a 1st or 2nd floor room in summer. I left before breakfast was served, which starts at 7 am, so cannot comment on that. The hotel could do with a new layer of paint.
