Derby Mickleover Hotel, BW Signature Collection

On a positive note, the staff were excellent throughout my stay and couldn’t be faulted. Breakfast was good—nothing exceptional, but tasty and perfectly acceptable.

Having stayed here for five nights, I can honestly say this hotel falls well short of its advertised 4-star rating. In my opinion, it is more comparable to a 2- or 3-star property. The standard rooms are very tired and dated, with worn furnishings, rips in the carpet, and an unpleasant musty smell that lingers throughout both the corridors and bedrooms. Despite staying for five nights, I didn’t have a good night’s sleep once. It felt as though the hotel deliberately encourages guests to pay extra for room upgrades rather than providing a comfortable standard room experience. The room lacked basic amenities I would expect from a 4-star hotel, such as a fridge. The shower pressure was extremely poor – more like a watering can than a shower. It genuinely took me around 45 minutes just to wash my hair. The swimming pool was one of the better aspects of the hotel, but even that felt dated and in need of refurbishment. It is also shared with non-residents, making it feel less exclusive for hotel guests. The lift system is confusing and inconvenient. Although there are three lifts, only certain lifts serve certain floors, and they can only accommodate around three people comfortably at a time. The hotel appears to cater heavily to coach tours and an older clientele, which may suit some guests but wasn’t what I expected. One final downside was the bar pricing, which felt more like central London than Derby. However, a five-minute walk into Mickleover offers plenty of excellent pubs, bars, and restaurants with fantastic food at much more reasonable prices. Overall, while the staff were great, the hotel itself is in desperate need of refurbishment and does not meet the standards I would expect from a 4-star property.

Amazing find with a lovely sized room for me and my children. Would defo go back. We loved the comfortable beds.

Liked it all really. Maybe a hello greeting on arrival but thats really digging. Really enjoyed the whole experience and am well travelled. This hotel was one of the most welcoming to a single mum.

It is a very beautiful property to stay at and the suite I stayed at was amazing. The staff inside the actual hotel was really lovely and made me feel very welcome.

I was discriminated by the guy that works at the pool which made me really upset and ruined my experience. What happened was I went in the jacuzzi, and the guy came over and said over 16 to be in there, I said I am I’m 22 I’m disabled, and he proceeded to ignore what I said and told me I’ve got 5 mins left in the pool as children have to be out at 7.30. I then had to repeat myself, saying that I’m not a child and he gave me a funny disbelieving look, shook his head and walked away. He then came back at 20 to 8 and told me to get out in a very rude manner, I AGAIN had to repeat myself to him, saying I’m 22 years old, he then went “No you’re not!” in a right rude way. However, we went after to reception inside the hotel and reported it to the manager, and they was absolutely amazing and sorted it out.

Decor a little dated but spotlessly clean, staff were exceptionally helpful, food very nice
