"Privilege Beach Akumal & Privilege club Coba"

10.0

Akumal privilege beach bar We are currently staying at the hotel and are members of the Privilege club. Wanted to say a big shout out to Fernando and George at the beach bar. They work so hard and are always full of energy and happy to serve you. They know exactly what drinks we want and make the best dark rum mojito's and dirty bannana cocktails! Fernando does a great job at keeping the privilege area for the members, which is great 💯 All the Privilege staff go above and beyond to sort out everything we need... Luis in Coba sorted out all our reservations before we arrived which was greatly appreciated We just love it here!

"Don't waste your money supporting this company."

2.0

Bahia Principe Grupo Pinero, We are truly angry with the way we are being treated by your organization. We faithfully supported the resorts since 2012, during the past 14 years, choosing to go to your properties over all others, even going during the Covid years when attendence was down, we came and supported you. You could have chosen to insist on maintaining the loyalty program to the people that supported you, but you haven't. What have you done to the people that paid for the Privilege Club, have they also been forgotten ? We are not planning to continue support your resorts in future since you are making the decision to drop us. If we wanted to go to Hyatt, we would have booked with them. We choose Bahia, because of the simple, uncomplicated choices, no complex programs, not having to deal with layers of upgrades, no convoluted packages, spending our vacation dollars with Bahia to reach a level of discounts, only to get it taken away. We acheived "black" level loyalty, which now means nothing. Bahia Principe Grupo Pinero has slowly been losing us since the passing of Pablo Pinero. The taking over of the company by Isabel García Lorca (President) and her daughters Encarna (Global CEO), Isabel, and Lydia have truly destroyed the legecy of Pablo. .We have over 20 other couples that we met at Bahia's (travel friends throughout the world), that feel the same way, and we will all continue to vacation together, just not at your resorts, and after seeing what Hyatt is offering, we will not be going to them either. We booked one more vacation at Akumal that is cancellable, which we will. Our last stay a little over a week ago was truly horrible, and the only saving grace of this vacation, was our scheduling a second week at a better resort. All of the staff we knew before, are gone, service was just impossible from check-in, to all areas where we had to work with your personnel. There was such a decline, we are done with Bahia's.

"Winter vacation for 2 weeks with another couple."

10.0

Very good service throughout the hotel. Very good food in the restaurants à la carte. We were in building 83, adults only. Specious room, very clean, very good service from maids. The concierge Carolina went out of her way to help us to reserve our restaurants à la carte and we appreciated her excellent service. The swimming pool always very clean and bar service very good.

"Lovely hotel and staff, but they need to improve the a la carte restaurant booking process"

10.0

This was our second visit to the hotel, we went a year ago and were so happy with the overall experience that we re-booked for the same weeks this year. We were upgraded to an ocean-view room which gave us a beautiful view of the sunrise every morning. The room itself was a bit tired, but it looks like the blocks are going through a process of being upgraded so presumably this one is waiting it’s turn! The hotel grounds, staff, food etc were all great, no complaints. The only issue (as last year) was the lack of availability of the a la carte restaurants. We started booking them as soon as we had access to the hotel’s online checkin process 10 days before the start of the holiday, but even then it was a lot of hassle finding spaces in the restaurants we wanted. We managed to get a booking every night (just), but if we had left it till we arrived then we probably wouldn’t have got any. We knew about this need to book early because we saw it in Tripadvisor reviews before we went last year, but there in no mention on the TUI website or app. This really needs to be sorted as other guests were clearly unhappy at not being able to eat in the a la carte restaurants which were advertised as part of the hotel’s features.

"An ok stay!"

6.0

Our first time at this hotel. We were there for 14 nights. Check in was extremely slow. Taken to our room by one of the many golf buggies that are around the site. Ground floor room, the smell that greeted us when the door was opened was horrendous.. smelt like dirty drains and dampness. The toilet didn't flush, and the room itself wasn't very clean !! We complained and were offered a different room for 4 days later as no other available rooms. The room was an upgrade and much nicer but had to suffer the other for 4 nights. Buffet restaurant was ok, lots of choice, tho a lot of the time was difficult to know what the food was as wasn't labelled... or was labelled incorrectly. Luke warm only, nothing was hot. A la carte restaurants all fully booked, managed to get 2 bookings for our 14 night stay. Very disappointing. The grounds were beautiful and well kept. Could probably do with the occasional sign showing directions to the lobby, as newcomers wondering around totally lost. Staff were all lovely and very attentive.

"Really nice stay"

8.0

Bahai Principe Akamal was lovely. The staff were great!… hard working and pleasant!! The food was good. However it was very difficult to reserve à la carte restaurants. (Many guests mentioned this). During our 2 week stay a couple of small hiccups which were addressed by the great staff. 😊 Nice mix of guests from around the world. We are Canadian… lots of Canadians at the resort! 🇨🇦

"Not 5*"

6.0

This was our first time with Bahia Principe, first time in Mexico and first time at Akumal. To start its not a five star resort or hotel. Saying that you will have a good holiday. Pools and beaches are good, staff are extremely friendly and you have a choice of the other hotels and bars so you can add variety into your holiday. I will join in with other reviews on the disappointment and frustration with tge a la carte restaurants. Part of the appeal of this resort was the choice of a la carte every night. I was unable to book any at home, the app just didn't work for me, we managed 2 in resort and guest services arranged 2. I appreciate we were luckier than some but still not what we paid for. And as others have said some restaurants were half empty the whole time we were there and when passing others they were also half empty. The buffet restaurant was extremely busy and the food lukewarm at best. Half of it was unlabelled or mis-labelled and as someone with a food intolerance this was not safe. The adults only snack bar was better but only served breakfast and lunch on a smaller scale. Our room was one of the older rooms that had not been refurbished. Saying that it did the job but it was very gloomy. As no sunlight came through even on the balcony. Several times our mini bar was not refilled or water replenished. Once we asked they came straight away. We also had to ask for blankets as we only had one thin sheet. Another down side was the loud music around the adults only pool. I guess music is a thing around pools now but this was the boom boom of nightclub music and looking around it didn't seem to suit the age range. Maybe I'm wrong but even local music played at a lower level would have been better. I understood that the main pool was where all the games and activities took place? There should be a quiet area. We loved the coffee shop which catered to food intolerances and the staff were friendly and helpful. But the small touches were missing to make this 5 star and would we come back? Probably not.

"À la cartes not actually available."

6.0

We are currently staying at the Bahia Principe Akamai Luxury. I will start by saying it is a beautiful property. The main lobby has a gorgeous view and the pool is right next to the ocean. I usually roll my eyes at people who complain about resorts but we are a bit frustrated with a few of the services. To start we are on the bottom floor (not the issue) and the room is a quite cool. The beds are only made up with sheets and there are not enough blankets in the room for all the beds. Second is the à la carts. This chain requires you to log in 10 days ahead of your stay to book. Our code did not work until approximately 6 days before our stay and at that point all of them were full. We booked at the luxury to have access to an a la cart every night of our stay. When I have gotten on a cancellation list the reservation is always later in the evening and when you are travelling with a child this doesn’t work when it’s past their bedtime and they are crying every night. I talked to guest services and their response was very blasé and told just to keep checking - no assistance offered. The restaurants always appear half empty when you walk by. This is frustrating when we paid the extra to have access to this service and it’s unavailable which leads me to why am I paying for a service that they can’t actually fulfil.

"Great resort with a variety of dining and entertainment options"

10.0

Great resort with superior food options and a great beach. I stayed in one of the remodeled ocean front junior suite rooms, and loved it. Gabriel checked us in, and unfortunately the villa we wanted was unavailable for a few nights, but he arranged for us to be able to move after a few days. Great customer service from him. The room is spacious and the balcony is nice, thought the deck furniture is very uncomfortable. Padded chairs are needed! The food is really very good in the buffet. Victor keeps the staff in order, and they were very attentive. There is a tremendous array of food options and I found it to be very high quality. It was very hard to get restaurant reservations though, and the restaurants requiring reservations were all half full! I assume it is an issue with staff, but I would have liked to be able to dine at some of the different restaurants that had zero reservations the whole 7 nights I was there. While you can book excursions through the hotel, they do not offer scuba diving. We contracted with a local scuba company, but they were not allowed to enter the property to pick us up and transport us to the boat docks, instead we had to head to the front of the property. That was time consuming and complicated with all our scuba equipment. I have been to this resort many times over the years, and love it for the variety of dining options and shows. Being able to take the trams to the different resorts for shows, dinner and cocktails set Bahia apart from other all inclusives due to the tremendous variety of options. This place is great for couples, families, friends, really any one looking for an upscale resort experience. Make sure to stop by the sports bar and have Antonio make you a margarita! Best bartender on the resort.

"Good Amenities, Nice Facilities, Friendly Staff, Horrible Management"

4.0

Went here on my honeymoon for this all inclusive stay. Accommodations and facilities were nice, staff were very friendly and polite, but the place was horrendously managed. Had some ridiculous and unnecessary reservation system for the restaurants, even though the restaurants were only ever half full. Most of the time, there were numerous last-minute cancellations, so there were open spots. You were supposed to be able to manage and place your reservation online, but this did not work. You couldn’t call the lobby to make a reservation either. You had to go down in person to make a reservation, but the front desk was also guest check-in and you might have to wait for extended periods of time and miss the shuttle or have someone else take the reservation. Ultimately, the reservation system is idiotic as there is plenty of available space at all the restaurants. It should be first-come, first-serve, like everywhere else. Also, at the snack bar by the pool, you have to view the menu online, but you can only place the order via two kiosks which are often crowded with people, or simply malfunction, freeze, and do not allow you to place an order. The online menu also lacks numerous options that are, in fact, on their menu. If you need to view the menu online, you should just be allowed to place the order online as well. In addition, you are unable to determine the frequency or order of the shuttle route, which did cause us to miss one of the dinner reservations we were forced to make, rather than just being able to show up. A simple shuttle route schedule would allow for better understanding and planning for traveling between the resorts. Overall, the amenities and facilities are nice, the staff is very friendly, but the mismanagement made for a more negative experience. Simple management and technological improvements could easily remedy this issue.
