Gateway Lodge

Location was 3 mins from where I was working. Daz who let me in and showed me to my room was a really nice bloke.

Upon arrival I was met with a door with a keycode entry lock. I had not been sent any instructions on how to gain entry. I rang the camera doorbell with no response. I tried phoning the numbers on a notice in the window - one was not recognised, the other went to straight to answerphone. I tried the bell again, and this time somebody spoke through it. I was told by the guy that he'd be over in two minutes to let me in - and to his credit he was true to his word. Once inside, the room stank of stale smoke (or something) to the point I could feel it on the back of my throat. There were two shared bathrooms each with its own toilet: one had no seat, the other one was so dirty (seat included) that I wouldn't risk sitting on it. I didn't use the kitchen. I've stayed in some budget accommodation in the past - I know the score and am certainly not fussy. However this place didn't meet the minimum standards of cleanliness even for budget accommodation.

Didn’t even end up staying here as after I booked and rang them to find the exact location of the hotel, they told me they didn’t have space and re-directed me a 20 minute walk to another property that was not acceptable at all. When I asked to be refunded or have my booking cancelled, they told me it wasn’t something they could do as Hotels.com needed to do. Contacted Hotels.com explaining the situation and they had been unable to make contact with the Hotel initially. And now I’m left out of pocket, paying for a hotel room that I didn’t stay in. Between Hotels.com and this hotel, I’m so disappointed and upset.

When reading the reviews, i was debating on staying here but thought lets give it a go anyways.. im so glad i did choose to stay here!!!! This place is great, not the best aesthetically but a great place to stay.. the one staff member there (name is calvin btw) is an absolute legend, very welcoming, always doing his best to help out in anyway and a generally all round nice guy.. was an absolute pleasure to stay here.. will definitely be back very soon!! Accommodation is definitely worth the price, not a wasted penny!!
