Historic but homely atmosphere

Wonderful location, inside the grounds at Sissinghurst, which meant we could stroll through the woods after hours when nobody else was there. And then the following morning, we were able to enter the gardens as soon as they opened, before it got crowded. Such a treat! The farmhouse is lovely, and the owner has a real eye for decor. Afternoon tea on arrival at 4pm was a nice touch, and the breakfast was excellent. There's a lovely terrace which will be a perfect place for a G&T in summer (we went in March). Good local taxi service if you don't want to drink and drive. Driver was very accomodating, dropping us off at a nearby village and picking us up again.

There are some good restaurants nearby, but we stayed on Sunday night, which meant a lot of places were closed. We went to the Queens Inn at Hawkhurst, which turned out to be a bad choice! If you go on a Sunday, you might be better off having a late lunch somewhere nicer!

The location is amazing! The views are incredible. The dining room staff were so friendly and efficient. Just loved talking to them.

Rooms were warm but it was unusually hot. Hosts could be a little friendlier. And we weren’t clear on the checking out process. But I am assuming that they were busy with breakfast. No one told us that we needed a code to get out!
